I second that!
Our areas busses are run by Arriva and they are about as reliable as Mystic Meg's predictions.
Stagecoach are worse though

Good idea, but has it worked in Oxford. IMHO no. The cars are simply moved to other roads - car journeys haven't decreased.

In your opinions, would the transport system be better today had it not been privatised? I personally think so.

Hmmm we'll never know really and it's a bit silly to hypothesise because the temptation to look back through rose-tinted specs in inevitable.

British Rail suffered from years of underinvestment which would have easily taken this long to get the investment in - if it were done at all since there would be no impetus to do so.

Also, the volume of traffic on the rails has increased an awful lot (don't ask me for figures ) since the early 90s, which was something that IMO was not accounted for when the sales were organised.

Perhaps I should redefine the question. In your opinions, would renationalisation yield better transport systems than continuing in the current privatised state?

No. The temptation to divert Treasury funds towards health would still be there, and so we would go back to the cycle of underinvestment.

There are good arguments both for and against, but on balance I think we are best sticking with what we've got to see if it can work over a longer time period - they've only had 10 years to turn around the railways and it takes time (and a lot of money) to do that.
