Being on the dole

Just a small point, who is going to find the graphic designer, the painter and the gardener who you have just pushed out of work so a person on the dole can do their job for a pittence, a job??
Catch 22.... You get people to do work whilst they are on the dole, and then put more people on the dole. If you are saying get the jobs done that arnt getting done like graffitti removal, well then it is up to the council to employ more people to get these jobs done, hence lowering the unemployment figures and getting a job done that they should have already done.

They're good points, but I think KT's point was that there is surplus labour sitting around being paid for doing nothing, and there are jobs not being done. The plan was to scrap benefit in return for a quasi-wage for getting these jobs done. Fact is, local councils don't have enough spare cash to give all their unemployed jobs, so this is theoretically a cheaper way of getting the jobs done, whilst giving the unemployed something to get up for in the morning.

Whatever, we've been through all of this and the Yanks have spoiled it.
I'm taking a break from the politics forum until they calm down a bit.
