I think it would only work well if everyone involved was into each guys/girls 50/50. If that makes sense. I genuinely can't understand why someone would have sex with someone they don't fancy. Regardless of gender. It just seems really wrong, but each to their own I guess.
I also don't really see the point of a threesome, IMHO odd numbers don't work, one always gets left out. If it's your mate who gets left out then it's not the end of the world, but if it's your partner that's really bad.

I am very fond of bonobos, and socially speaking they are the closest thing to humans so we shouldn't write off studies of their behaviour as completely irrelevent.
