Fancy a riot? MI5 are watching you...

I first spotted this one on the ARRSE forums, and thought I'd start a thread about it here as well.
According to the Express (I know, I know...): "Top secret contingency plans have been drawn up to counter the threat posed by a 'summer of discontent' in Britain. The 'double-whammy' of the worst economic crisis in living memory and a motley crew of political extremists determined to stir up civil disorder has led to the *extraordinary step of the Army being put on *standby. MI5 and Special Branch are targeting activists they fear could inflame anger over job losses and payouts to failed bankers."
Only last week, Superintendent David Hartshorn, the copper at the Met in charge of the public order branch said that the G20 summit in April could herald the start of a "summer of rage". The last time there were huge protests in the UK - back in 1990 over the issue of the poll tax - it brought down Thatcher's government. Inevitably, there'll be a certain amount of planning over eventualities such as this from the security services - it's what they're paid a lot of money to do, after all. I wonder, however, how much of this is nothing more than posturing.
Why? Well, the Express claimed that the army are on stand-by if things get really bad. Just one problem - the Army are a bit busy right now, fighting various wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. We're leaving Iraq in a few months, but it's very likely that very nice man President Obama is going to ask us to send more to Afghanistan to fight this pointless, doomed conflict. So it's not as if there'll be much the military could do in the event of massive riots. Oh, and as someone at ARRSE points out, "how can the Government suddenly find troops to cover its own back but not for Afghanistan?". Funny that, innit?
Over to you...

I think its laughable 'summer of rage' - people can actually protest without it being a riot - the media and Police type services just don't want anyone else to think that. Anyway since when has April been the summer?
The shops are about to start looking rather empty.
Before the end of summer ...property worth 80% less than at it's peak.
Eight million people ...or just about everybody ...unemployed.
You lot can't see it because you still believe the official line.
The rest of the post is imho just the Express trying to stir.
FYI though, are Army has about 120,000 personnel. Only 15,000 of them are committed on operations. I think 105,000 troops on the street is a significant number, don't you?
Give us a date then 'before the end of summer' is a bit too vague. June?
I think before the end of summer aint bad for such a prediction that goes way beyond what the media are telling you.
Welcome to the new communism.
The good news is ...once the bankers have this new communism up and running ...you'll all slowly start to get jobs again but ...they won't be what you were hoping for and the pay will be different than what you've been used to.
are you special? aren't you included in this? why do you seperate yourself from the rest of society which i assume is what you are doing when you use those terms?
Sorry I was trying to seperate myself from the majority ...or what seems to be a majority of posters on this site that only ever want to see the official crap that's put out.
People seem to not want to see beyond it.
On one hand people distrust the government yet on the other hand they believe them.
The biggest movements of money capital and wealth in history has been happening this last couple of years ...now it's time to face up to the effects.
GE is imagination at work
With operations in the UK since the 1930s, GE's businesses have seen accelerated growth here in recent years. GE continually invests in its businesses and in innovative technology that can meet the needs of customers and society, particularly in the energy, transportation, healthcare, media and financial services' sectors.
Not any longer.
It aint in the papers yet but this giant is about to vanish ...kaput...gone ...broke.
how nmany more jobs gone will that be?
We can't expect the American People to jump from Capitalism to Communism...but we can assist their elected leaders in giving them small doses of Socialism, until they awaken one day to find that they have Communism. -- Nikita Khrushchev (1894-1971)
State money pouring into banking and manufacturing is communism.
