Cheap Wine Suggestions

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I'm looking to get hold of about 10 bottles of wine to use as prizes in a little team building exercise so want something nice but not pricey - £3 to £4 a bottle max .. any suggestions of where to buy and what is good?

To be drunk at an outdoor event so ability to keep it cool for long periods will be limited. Probably looking for white wines though, maybe rose.

I am a huge fan of Ernst and Julio Gallo Rose - perfect summer wine (only thing we are missing is the summer!).

Normally £4.99 but if you buy it from Sainsburies they are currently selling at a reduced price of £3.79 plus you get a 5% discount when you buy 6 or more... would work out £3.60 a bottle!

Go for for cheap new world wines.
As others have said Ernest & Julio Gallo and Jacobs Creek are good and cheap from Tesco. When buying white avoid sweet.

I think you can get some cheap German wines from Tesco, try Liebfraumilch.

Most places like Tesco or Co-op will do you a discount if you buy a case - I think Co-op does 10% off if you buy 12, and 5% off if you buy 6 bottles.

I've had some absolutely horrible hangovers on Jacob's Creek, but it probably more to do with the way I drink it

Two glugs of that and it's usually Goodnight Vienna.

I would say avoid becaues rose is really only nice if its super hot and its freezing in england at the moment.

My suggestion would be Soave for white if your going only for white or Cote de Rhone or Valpulchela (i've spelt it wrong )for red. Lots of people have quite strong feelings about eithe red or white wine so if i was you i would get half and half.

ETA - i've looked on the sainsburys site and there are quite few good italian reds at around the £4 mark. However not that i'm being that much of a wine snob - but most really nice wines are at least about £8 a bottle (though I als think that most over £20 aren't worth the extra either) so i wouldnt' get your knickers in a twist bout finding a really nice on - most people who drink wine will drink anythign as long as its not too disgusting

You cant go wrong with jacobs creek or blossom hill they are normally around a fiver so not too expensive you might be able get 2 for 1 deals from supermarkets too

Go into tesco and go for the ones which are half price it's what i always do, and if you buy 6 or more you get 5% off.

One of the best places to go for wine is Netto, they've normally got a 3 for £10 deal going on and its normally good stuff like Blossom Hill ruby cabernet, which is divine, and other brans like Stowells.
