Sorry, I dunno much about uni books, but college books are just as expensive
Can you not just buy the key texts and then get the others from the library for a bit? Thats what my lecture's are suggesting.
Get student deals and raid the second hand shops. Or make friends with the people in the year above.
Only get the books you really, need. Probably only 1 book for each module.
Look out for people from the years above selling their books.
Check the library to see how many copies they have and what length of time you can hire for....
Also because I'm doing Politics although I've got the most up-to-date books a fair amount of it is out of date now (so there's little chance of me being able to buy second hand) because politics changes so quickly so I just hope I can get away with new books every year.
TBH You have to kind of expect spending loads on books because they're bigger, harder to get hold of and specialised. Not much of a comfort I know but there you go. Just wanted to say you're not alone!
Keep an eye out in the union and your buildings for second years selling their books on. Usually they'll have had to have the same set books as you do so thats a cheap way to get hold of some.
Plus some bookshops have special arrangements with universities that they'll sell certain texts at discounted rates to students.
i've spend £130 so far and have 3! books.i've been looking out for second hand books but all ive seen is notices for biochem books.looks like a talking nicely to my parents.
i did expect a huge bill for books but not quite this bad. i haven't got to the library yet but i know the ratio of books to students is 25:1 so i think they'll be stiff competion for books, plus every lecturer refers to the libray as "short loan" so i'm guessing i can't get them for long.
i'll be gettin books for xmas at this rate!
thanks again.
I thought £28 for one of mine was damn expensive.
Thankfully i've got a flat mate who has the same first year as me so we're sharing books.
Try getting books between a group of you from a tutorial for example, split the cost 4 ways..........
Bopz
It is when you see the size of this book...it's tiny.
Yeha I know...when I was doing maths I had no books to buy. Give me back them days.
Oh yeah, that pisses me right off, at least the book I am buying is pretty big I suppose.......
Or you could use the library...:D
