America is the biggest rogue state!

While America claims Iraq is a rogue state that is a threat to world peace the country that has caused more death and destruction in history is America, from Korea and Vietnam to Latin America and the middle east America has caused the deaths of millions and overthrown democratic governments such as Chile in 1973 replacing them with brutal dictators.
America has also backed and funded terrorism around the world such as the Mujiheden in Afghanistan in the 1980s the Contras in Nicaragua and backed the most brutal dictators in the world including Saddam Hussein of Iraq during the Iran/Iraq war.

Eventually we shall rule everything! Resistance is futile!
Surrender to the inevitable!!!!
I say leave the US to do what it likes, but the UK should stay out of it.
Fat chance.
Yes, whilst the Soviet regime they were fighting were such angels, I mean who else would think of booby trapping childrens toys?
Do you have any comprehension of the differences between terrorism and warfare? That one deliberately targets civillians, yet the other doesn't?
Have you ever considered that if the US wanted to kill millions of civillians then Baghdad would just be ruins in a desert (for example)?
~~~~~~
Go ahead, bash the US all the while, if that makes you feel better. Then look around your house (bedroom in your parents house, student loggings, besite - wherever it is that you are living), and take into account all of the US influences you have there - including the Micosoft software you are using to read this.
Feel like a hipocrite yet?
No-one is suggesting that the US is perfect, some of us believe in a sense of proportion - you obviously prefer a sense of the absurd.
Just because one side is doing wrong it does not always follow that the other side is doing right....
And at the end of the day any country with too much power is undemocratic.
People talk of one day having a world democracy, when at the moment we are living in a world dictatorship, and hardly any-ones noticed/
Undertaking military operations in full knowledge that civilians will die as a result is almost as bad as deliberately targetting them. And it's not like the US hasn't come extremely close to deliberately targetting civilians in the past; napalming Vietnamese villages then dropping agents orange and blue on thier crops to starve them wasn't directed at the general civilian population, was it? :rolleyes:
I'm fully aware that if the US wanted to kill everyone in Iraq, or everyone in the Middle East, or everyone on Earth, then they could. I'm not entirely sure how it's relevent though. We should be thankful that they're not, but because of that ignore the civilians they do knowingly murder? We shouldn't criticise them because, at the end of the day, they could be doing a lot worse?
Some of the most important medical advances this century were made by Nazi doctors abusing victims of concentration camps. I'm sure you don't support the Nazis, MoK, so wouldn't it be a tad hypocritical to use healthcare founded on their work?
Ever used a telephone or watched TV? Goodness, it was Nazi scientists working for the US that allowed them to build their rockets to launch their satellites. How hypocrtical of you!
Just because we are influenced by US culture and use US products, doesn't mean we're not allowed to criticise the US; it doesn't make us hypocrites.
In answer to the first clause, Murph the Surf is.
Seriously though, you make a good point there. I recognise that alot of the US' work is a force for good in the world. Evidently, I'm simply more willing to criticise the stuff they do wrong. Perhaps too willing sometimes.
I'm glad you put the word almost in italics, becuase it is a very important distinction. Kind of hard to undertake any military operations without endangering civilians isn't it?
Being used a cover by the VietCong...
Crops being used to feed the VietCong, also forests being used by the VietCong to hide their troop movements.
I'm not suggesting that either of these were wonderful policies, but unless you add that rider you are quoting incidents out of context.
The US didn't want to kill innocent civilians, which is why they were used as cover by the VietCong - see also Palestinians and Israelis. I think you'll find that those very villagers wreen't left to fend for themselves either...
Well, not completely
Its relevant becuase the US is being accused of targetting civilians. I pointed out that if that was their policy then that is what they would have done. They wouldn't care for smart bombs, they would just use a bombs with enprmous yield, or carpet bomb as was the case in WW2
No, but you shouldn't criticise unless you can offer a realistic alternative. Do you honestly believe that US forces wouldn't use another military option if it would guarantee zero civilian casualties?
Nope, but I think you'll find I have defended many Nazi practices too, and I also suggested that Hitler was a great leader.
I accept that some of what they did was distasteful yet of benefit to mankind. Remember we also use human guinea pigs. The only (and the important) difference is that we do it with their consent.
Most of the time
I haven't forgotten the chemical warfare tests on the Tube, and the Nuclear Tests on soldiers...
What makes you hypocritical is that you only criticise the US, that you never defend them. That you cannot see the good because you are too wrapped up in what you see as the bad.
Charles Babbage once said that if you give an Englishman a new idea he will focus his entire mind on looking for the difficulties. If you prove that the idea works, he will say it is impractical. He said that if he had invented a machine that peels potatoes, someone would say it is of no use because it doesn't also slice pineapples.
I think that argument covers most political coverage, and certainly a lot of the comments we see on these boards. It is easy to criticise but difficult to keep a sense of proprtion. Some of what benefits mankind can be distasteful, but it is still a benefit.
BTW nice to see that you can accept a personal failing (too willing to criticise), we all have them but it is unusual to see anyone recognise them.
Personally I will always look for the good in someone, or something. Guess that comes across in some of the things I say...
Both inventions predate satellites. Neither is a German invention. As for "Nazi" scientists and satellites/rockets...German? Yes. Members of the Nationalist Socialist party? Probably. Nazis, as in active believers in National Socialism? Unlikely.
See, there is a difference between a nationality and a political ideology.
By the way, can you actually identify a medical advance resulting from the experiments done at the death camps? Not a generalization, but an actual advance resulting from the knowledge gained there?
Glass bottomed, glow-in-the-dark, Lake Bagdad is the term we generally prefer...
DAMN! Reality intrudes!
oh yes, i do feel the influences that the us has on me, i live in it, you don't know what it feels like to live in this place and go thru it's right-winged educational system and hear all the bull-shit they give you everyday while they expect you to live in ignorance. i know more than you think.
This link shows why American politicans have made their country so hated around the world with their unethical foreign policies.
Also, George Bush senior is an influential figure in the Carlyle Group (I think that's the name), an American arms manufacturer, and is consequently making untold sums from his son's War against Terrorism.
America also spends 421 billion dollars a year on the military - almost seven times as much as the combined military expenditure of Iraq, Iran, Cuba, North Korea, Libya, Sudan and Syria, all of which are states the US has deemed a threat, and uses a much higher proportion of those weapons than other states.
#1 - I totally agree that America shows an amazing amount of hypocrisy in its dealings with Israel although I suspect my reasons are the complete opposite of yours
#2 - Since when were the Northern Alliance a terrorist group?
#3 - Idealogical war? Since when? The action in afghanistan had one goal, to eliminate the abilities of Al-Queda to launch attacks against the US and her interests along with punishment of those involved with 11/9.
lol
They are using miltary force to try to overthrow the government.
Precisely - but rather than say that outright, they dress it up as this higher cause to eradicate terrorism from the face of the earth. They have portrayed it almost as a good vs evil conflict by saying things like "Whoever is not with us is aginst us" etc and referring to the "axis of evil." Calling their actions things like 'Operation Infinite Justice'/'Enduring Freedom' also seems very ideologically motivated.
That is not a definition of terrorists...They can be classed as rebels, subversives etc but not terrorists...They have been fighting, and losing, a civil war.
I guess people look at things in different ways. Ive not heard the US referring to this as any kind of ideological fight..Well other than the fact that its fight against the idea of terrorism. Thats just practical though, after having been attacked.
The names are the usual over the top Americanisms. Nowt different there.
What right-wing educational system? This may be slightly off-topic but our (British) educational system seems to be more influenced by a "new-labour" wooly liberal agenda that allows kids to run riot, undisciplined, in the playground while teachers are bogged down by paperwork that hinders their teaching.
As opposed to a Tory one which takes away free milk, and believes that it's sorted education until the next election???
"right-winged educational system?
LMAO...uh, not exactly....
uh, have you spent 12 years in school here, LMAO, yea, so you wouldn't know would you.
let me tell you some of the things i learned, or didn't... all that shit about colombus, until about 9th grade, we didn't learn that they did anything bad to the native americans, i never 'officially' learned about shaw of iran, never heard about the us spending 1.5 billion dollars to iraq military technology, we were never taught about the oil issues, foreign policy, anything important. besides finding it out on my own, it was never taught until college.
not only education but norms are conserative too. we got suspended for having 'oddly' coloured hair, simple things like that.
Never learned to spell, or punctuation, either. :rolleyes:
Exactly which Shaw family was that? George Bernard descendant?
From "Wisconsin", eh?
Me thinks yer slip is showing... :eek:
Well... at least we know what Stealgate was up to during his "absence"... establishing an alter ego.
Just out of interest but why should you learn much of that in school (I understand Colombus, Natives part), but why learn about the Shah, or foreign policy, or the US selling weapons to Iraq?
Surely the role of school is to prepared you for life, not to sway your political beliefs.
What about parents, don't they have a role to play here. Shouldn't you also criticise them for not telling you about these things?
Actually, I spent 19 years in the US educational system (kindergarten to high school grad, BA, MA). What you are telling me is that you didn't bother to learn. By the way, what American spells "colored" with a "u"?
why should they leave out information like that in govt. class or history?
thank yu fur reminden me that i falde those 3rd grad speleng tests
thantos, i don't wear slips
greenhat, americans who spend every weekend in canada since they were 12 spell coloured with a u, thank you
Meanwhile it has failed in its objective of capturing bin Laden.
