Why are children toys so expensive, I am going to go bankrupt.
I don't know what to buy for my son who is turning 3 in a few months. I have those jellyblox things put away for his birthday so far.
He loves the Cars movie but he pretty much has everything you can buy related to that, he also does like cars in general.
I know I buy him a lot of things but I don't buy them for no reason, I buy him things after treatments and hospital trips. I feel like his 3rd birthday is going to be a special moment as it will be his first birthday not in hospital, but also his first birthday without chemo, and without having cancer. That's if the scans show up clear after his last dose of chemo which is near the end if this month.

Hey @Animalloverb, I can hear how difficult things are at the moment. It makes sense that you want to buy a gift for your son, but that children's toys are expensive and prices keep rising. Are there other types of gifts that your son might like - perhaps something homemade (e.g. a knitted scarf), or something new swapped for something old that isn't used any more - which might help it be more affordable to get him a gift?
@Azziman
When it comes to my son, because of everything he has been through I feel the need to treat him to some new things, especially for his birthday which is coming up. I'm trying to get him toys he can use safely, but also that match what he shows interest in.
Bea if you thought children toys are expensive look up SEND friendly toys you can almost identical baby toys for a much lower price
So I completely feel you
@Animalloverb , thank you for this post - I really hear just how important it is for you to be able to buy your son these gifts, and to celebrate him and bring him joy, esspecially when the both of you have been through such straining and frightening times with him health. I can imagine the gifts feel like such a moment of relief and happiness and connection, and it is valid that you really want to provide this for him. I wonder if charity shops might be a good option? I know for my younger relatives, I'll often get all their christmas presents second-hand, and they never mind a bit!
@Sian321
I'm going to have a search about, I am going to go out today and I will take my son with me and see what sort of things he seems interested in, then during a day off work throughout next week I may go for a wander round and find things that match his interests but are more budget friendly. I know for a fact I want to get him an educational globe as he has become obsessed with educational things at the moment, he has delays and things but he loves numbers and anything educational.
@BensonE
Yeah, I am actually wanting to create a safe sensory space for him in the house, but it would mean moving and getting rid of all my fiancé's old things from that room which I haven't touched since she passed.
@Animalloverb have you thought bout taking him to a sealife centre or zoo for his birthday instead of toys
.
Children of his age loves those days out and may work out to be cheaper then loads of toys
@BensonE
I have been organising that, the same one I proposed to my fiance at, I have called them as the staff know me well, and they are giving him extra access and animal themed gift of his choice which will be nice for him. It's a pretty large aquarium aswell.
Gonna be blunt quickly, are you okay with going to aquarium where you proposed at with your son or do you feel that would trigger you?
.
Only you know that answer :)
@BensonE
It's for sure going to trigger me, but my son's happiness is more important to me right now.
