getting a job at 18

toffuna101toffuna101 Posts: 3,704 Community Veteran
i feel like im gonna drop out of college when i turn 18 therefore ill need to get a job then. its because i dont think im gonna past my first year of college because of the tight deadlines and stuff like that. ive been thinking of doing something with admin when i drop out but im scared that im not going to be able to find a job. ive been thinking of doing the mandatory work experience that i have to do in february in an estate agent and then later on doing one week's worth of work experience in the british red cross. honestly in terms of the type of work experience i want to do in the british red cross i want to do i want to go in HR and learn how they do stuff there. alternatively when im 18 i can just apply to citizens advice as an admin assistant volunteer like i tried to do in the past but was too young. i think applying to citizens advice as a volunteer will be better as ill get more experience there as a couple weeks of worth of work experience isnt enough. i just really hope ill be able to get a job after i drop out of college.

i have good news, ive already mentioned this in general chat today but for those who dont know when i turn 18 my dad is going to ask the director of his workplace whether he could offer me an office job. i hope he says yes because i have no idea how im going to find a job when i become a legal adult. and i hope its a part time job because i dont think i can handle doing a full time job. but honestly if its full time i wont mind, ill get more money that way.

it's amazing to see you being so proactive over this with how many positions youre applying for, both volunteer and paid. Fingers crossed you get some positive responses

im gonna stop applying to volunteering roles because i dont think thats the best option for me going forward. sure ill be able to gain work experience however i wont get paid and i kind of need to get paid to give some money to my mum to cover for the bills and stuff like that. but if i end up getting a volunteering role it wont be the end of the world.
