What are you reading right now?
I've just finished Midnight Sun (it's Twilight but from Edward's perspective ). For those that don't know I'm a massive hardcore full-time Twilight fan but I started this book in October and it took me aaaages to get through. I think because it's like 750 pages and the chapters are huge but I finished it yesterday! I then immediately went and watched Nosferatu and damn I gotta say I love a vampire
Anyway I've just started The Impossible Life by Matt Haig who's my all time favourite author and guess what?? These chapters are like 1-3 pages long so I can fly through it !!
My goal is to read 15 books this year so I better get cracking - let me know what you've been reading I want recs

Omg I got my mum The Life Impossible by Matt Haig for Christmas actually *It was meant to be a suprise for her but she came Christmas shopping with me instead so it sadly wasnt a suprise but she loved it*. I don't think she read it yet but it looks very good actually and the fact it's set in Ibiza is awesome!. I love Ibiza so much and I normally go there on holiday. I think I might be reading that book too. Matt Haig is a brilliant author and his book the comfort book is fantastic!. Midnight Sun also sounds interesting too. I've never read the Twilight series to be fair, I think I've seen only parts of the film and one of the films when I was in secondary school actually because we had to study it as part of the media curriculum .
I got nearly the ACOTAR series to start reading apart from the two other books. I also got Iron Flame and some library books I got on neurodiversity specifically having autism as an adult as I want to better understand myself and my identity over the coming months (and it might be helpful for an apprenticeship that I might be doing )
Both books are dense and heavy reading, but are well-written and discuss some ideas well ahead of their time given how old they are (Brave New World is almost 100 years old, Island is closer to 70 years old). Would recommend giving both a read - they're great in their own right, but also are referenced quite a bit in the modern day so it's good to know what they're about!
I've got a target of 12 books for the year on Goodreads. Hopeful I'll hit it as I'm putting more importance on reading this year!
@Azziman wow they both sound like hefty things to read. Bet the language is a lot to chew! Love Goodreads it's so handy to track
@struggling0_0 yeah I go through reading phases like in 2022 I somehow read 38 books??? I find I'm either all for reading or I don't have the concentration at all! The Cosy Cat Society sounds right up my alley let me know how you find it! I might have to give it a read
so far im looooving the cosy cat society and would already recommend it!!
i've also heard loads concerning ACOTAR but am undecided whether its for me - but i may give it ago and hopefully it is worth the hype.
and i'll definitely be checking back to this discussion thread for more book recs
It’s a TW book as it about mental health so if you choose to read be careful
Wish to bully me…I’m used to it
Want to talk crap about me…go on then
Want to make me cry…feel free
I don’t really know what I like reading though and buying a few books to maybe not enjoy them seems like a waste 😂
Also I'm a big believer of not buying books brand new unless I can't find them anywhere. Highly recommend charity shops or there's a website called World of Books that sells second-hand books for much cheaper! Love looking in Waterstones but I very rarely buy from there (Amazon is usually cheaper!)
It's also super handy if you have friends or family who reads so you can do book swaps And if you start a book that you can't get into just put it down - no point wasting time trying to read it if you can't enjoy it. Maybe consider what films you like watching and if you'd like the same genre in books. Or just read a few blurbs and pick your fancy
I wanna buy a proper story book though. I asked my uncle there if I’m allowed to read books and he said ya so I’ll buy some . I’ll get second hand bc I’m very picky . I never even considered that lol
@Azziman that sounds absolutely fascinating, and I'll add it to my book list! I really enjoyed Brave New World, and saw it as the more realistic dystopian threat to 1984. I also really enjoyed the doors of perception, one of the most trippy experiences I've had reading anything! The description is wonderful
@sinead276 I got ACOTAR for my partner and she really enjoyed the first book! I will steal it and let you know how it is--especially as I've just finished game of thrones and am mourning the loss of fantasy in my reading life.
I'm currently reading The Etymologicon by Mark Forsyth. It's about the various quirks and histories of the English language. My favourite chapter is on the many different names for butterflies in all of the world's languages. In Indonesian, it's rama rama, because they form a plural by duplicating the original word (rama being butterfly). In Italian it's Farfalle, which is where we name the pasta (which the Americans call bow-ties, ignoring the Italian name). And in Greek, the name for butterfly is psyche, and psyche was the goddess of the soul🦋
Yayyy get some books let us know how you get on!
I'll have to have a read of that book. I got a few autobiographies mostly owned by my mum because she enjoys reading about other people's lives. I got Dave Grohl's autobiography for both of us one xmas and it's actually quite interesting.
I was trying to think who Daisy May Cooper was at first but when I saw This Country, I was like "oh yeah that show!".
That’s it! It’s very funny and also kind of sad. I really like her 😃
.
I am very nosey so I enjoy reading about other peoples lives too😂 I’d probably read more . I might have a look at a few 🤔
Omg the title sequence is absolutely amazing and perfect how they shot it too. Did you know that there's Dexter original sin tv show and there's going to be a Dexter resseruction show as well?. Im watching bits of Dexter on youtube lol. Yep there's a book series. Actually the book series by Jeff Lindsey inspired the tv show Dexter.

I might be going to my local library soon to see if I can take out some books.
