Do you prefer to give gifts or receive them?

Who doesn't love opening a box on their birthday or during the holidays? Equally, I know people get a real kick out of showing their loved ones just how much they care through a really sentimental present. What are your guys' thoughts?

    I'll be honest, I love both. It's good to receive gifts from others, but equally, giving gifts to them knowing how much they'd appreciate it also gives such a good feeling

    Bit of both though maybe slightly more giving than receiving at times. There have been times in the past where I've stumbled upon a really good present that I know the recipient would just love and it's those times that I love to see their reaction to it. This doesn't happen all the time, but when it does, it's amazing!

    Eventhough I do enjoy presents and gifts. I also like to make or give gifts as it makes me happy seeing the joy on someone's face when they get a gift.

    Both to be honest, I enjoy seeing people happy when you get them something they really wanted, or something that you put a lot of thought into. I also enjoy the surprise of seeing what others have gotten for me. :3

    I love choosing presents for people! I especially love getting them something they haven't even asked for but that they love, it shows your friends and family how well you know them <3

    I absolutely love that everyone is made so content from both giving and receiving gifts! I guess it makes sense, both are very beautiful things, because you get to see how much others' know and appreciate you <3

    I think in particular the points about finding the 'right present' for a person are so true, like being able to perfectly make someone feel loved on a special day is a very joyful thing =) I love it guys xx

    Also, thoughts on the difference (if any) between gifts you pay for and gifts that you make? Does anyone have any examples?

    Completely, you make such a good point, when everyone's eyes are on you, it's a little uncomfortable!! I struggle even more when it's an important gift, when the person is anticipating a reaction to something you'd like. I hope it wasn't too stressful for you this time around @Past User <3

    Definitely a bit of both it’s always nice to see people’s faces when u give them something that they have wanted for for a long time but ofc it’s always nice to receive as well haha

    It's always nice to get presents, but I feel happier when I give someone a present they really need/like. Exchanging gifts (or even other things like compliments) in that way can make both people feel happier! :)

    Ah! How come your mum ended up opening them in the end @Past User ? :)

    Couldn't agree more @ebyrne556 there is something really special about noticing something small about another person's interests and showing them that love through a gift <3 Equally who doesn't love tearing off the wrapping paper???

    So true @Azziman , i think it really reinforces how valued we feel when others express love for us in this way! This is why i'm always thrilled to get cards without presents too because it means that person took the time out of their day to think of me =)

    Definitely a very true point @Past User ! i think the concept of getting a good gift always feels awesome in the abstract but sometimes the givers' anticipation can be a bit daunting, especially when others are watching too :// xx

    I sometimes find that too especially when you have lots of family around and that when you watch opening presents I kinda find it a bit daunting. I find it odd getting presents eventhough it is kind, I often feel like I have to do something good for the present or gift. I feel so awkward about revicieving them.

    Completely @Past User and @Amy22 , couldn't agree more, the watchful eyes certainly feel embarrassing to be honest :/

    But, yes such a true point about how it's a bit of an awkward emotional state to be in, because on the one hand you want to be really grateful and ensure the gift giver feels appreciated and respected for their choice but on the other you'd just like to get the whole ordeal behind you.

    This is why, for me, I really do prefer to give gifts individually to give the person their own time to process them, and when they're opening them I let them know they can do it privately if they'd prefer. Especially if it's a gift of sentimentality or with depth behind it <3
