Who doesn't love opening a box on their birthday or during the holidays? Equally, I know people get a real kick out of showing their loved ones just how much they care through a really sentimental present. What are your guys' thoughts?

I think in particular the points about finding the 'right present' for a person are so true, like being able to perfectly make someone feel loved on a special day is a very joyful thing
Also, thoughts on the difference (if any) between gifts you pay for and gifts that you make? Does anyone have any examples?
Couldn't agree more @ebyrne556 there is something really special about noticing something small about another person's interests and showing them that love through a gift
So true @Azziman , i think it really reinforces how valued we feel when others express love for us in this way! This is why i'm always thrilled to get cards without presents too because it means that person took the time out of their day to think of me
Definitely a very true point @Past User ! i think the concept of getting a good gift always feels awesome in the abstract but sometimes the givers' anticipation can be a bit daunting, especially when others are watching too
I sometimes find that too especially when you have lots of family around and that when you watch opening presents I kinda find it a bit daunting. I find it odd getting presents eventhough it is kind, I often feel like I have to do something good for the present or gift. I feel so awkward about revicieving them.
But, yes such a true point about how it's a bit of an awkward emotional state to be in, because on the one hand you want to be really grateful and ensure the gift giver feels appreciated and respected for their choice but on the other you'd just like to get the whole ordeal behind you.
This is why, for me, I really do prefer to give gifts individually to give the person their own time to process them, and when they're opening them I let them know they can do it privately if they'd prefer. Especially if it's a gift of sentimentality or with depth behind it
