I have a challenge for you that fits in really nicely with Number Confidence Week. Have a think about your favourite hobby and how it might use maths.

For me, I love drawing and painting. I didn't think about maths being involved, but there's lots involved! When drawing or painting, you're mixing colours with the right ratios, choosing the right size canvasses or frames, estimating how much paint you need, and also understanding proportions. There are lots of ways that we use numbers when doing our favourite hobbies.

What's your favourite hobby and how does it use maths?

Maybe some of us will never fully be okay, but at least we're here. We're still trying. We're doing the best we can. That's worth celebrating too ❤

I like postcrossing it’s a project where I send a postcard to someone in the world and recive it from another person and I have to pay for stamps and that involves maths

@Aife This is very interesting! Thanks so much for bringing this up!

I love reading. I suppose in terms of maths, I always count how many pages are left before the next chapter to see whether or not I can push another chapter before going to sleep haha.

Origami. I guess that's maths... Got to cut paper down to right measurements. Count the folds correctly or it doesn't work, folding also creates shapes

These are all really interesting, thank you for sharing @Durhamjaide, @Brookee & @GreenTea. There is definitely lots of maths involved in all of your favourite hobbies :)

@GreenTea Yes! That is definitely geometry and don't forget what other skills it includes (patience, following instructions)!

God this is actually so cool, I promise I've always hated maths and not been good at it but I was always super jealous (in a kind way) of people who were good at it. Changing my perspective to see how important numbers are to my day-to-day subconscious actions is awesome <3 I'm grateful to you for posting this xx Even something as 'small' as counting reps at the gym and making sure I do the number I intended uses maths! xx

I've mentioned it a couple times on the boards but I'm a big fan of video games, playing them is what I spend most of my free time doing honestly! Aside from the fact that video games are literally built using numbers and maths there's also a lot of maths going on on the player side depending on what kind of games you play. :D For example I play quite a few JRPGs (Japanese Role Playing Games) that require you to do quick maths on the fly to make sure all your characters can do well in the battles that crop up. Or you can just spam attack and see what happens I suppose. ;)
