I have just completed my 12th standard. I was very close to a man who u can say was my mentor, counselor. Suddenly he says that we should start spending less time and talking less to each other. Because may be he'll be getting married. He started avoiding me and he justifies his act by saying he wants to become a doctor. But his company only boosts me to do better.

    You probably know this already, but just to mention we're a UK-based service, which means the advice and general knowledge of people on this forum will be mostly UK-specific. You're more than welcome to stick around and post just like anyone else, though. :)

    It would be interesting to explore the kind of relationship you have/had with this man. You said it was a counsellor/mentor relationship - were you having formal counselling with him?

    Sounds like he's really someone you look up to and it's good to have those positive influences in your life, and it can suck when those relationships need to change for whatever reason. :( Particularly when counselling sessions finish, although it's hard, it usually ends up being a good thing - gaining independence is healthy and gives you the opportunity to put what you've learned over that time into practice.

    I was wondering how you met this man and whether it was a professional or personal relationship that you had with him? If it was professional, would it be possible for you to find a new counsellor, you might get on as well if not better with them?
