Does anyone here know what they wanna do with their life?
It would be cool if we could build a thread showing what areas of work people are mostly interested in. I wanna be a web master / programmer or maybe a games developer. <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif">

Im 22 years old and I aint got a clue what I want to do as a career..I work in IT at the moment but only because im reasonably good at it. The thought of spending the rest of my life with computers fills me with horror.
The travel & tourism industry is one.
TV, Film, Radio, Magazines etc is another.
Social work etc is another.

Doing a BTEC National Diploma in ICT at the mo, on my second year and considering either getting a job or going into a HND after that.
Apparently, if u know C++ or Java u can get a job in America that pays upto £50k pa or in UK that pays £25k pa.
Anyone know why American companies pay great and UK companies pay usually less than half what American companies pay. Is it a VAT thing (like petrol) or are they just penny pinching bastards?

i also think that a job involving art and design would be really good, because in my opinion art is the best school subject ever invented <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif"> <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif">
I've wanted to do these things all my life, but recently i've started thinking that after I've gained a bit of life experience I'd like to be a teacher.
Shit, I've never actually written that down but it is one of the most worthwhile jobs I can think of and definitely what I want to do.

I'm stuck in a shit dead-end job with no hope. Arrrrrrrgggggg! <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/mad.gif">
Any advice?
Also consider positions which may allow you to be promoted into the job you want within a relatively small space of time, if you can impress your boss early on, your chances of moving up that ladder are better.
Look at our careers section for more info on job apps and where to look: http://www.thesite.org/careers/
Good Luck

I know I have so much to offer but short sighted ppl won't hire graduates cos they assume they're all layabouts, and u ALWAYS need one years experience: even for monkey jobs. I know part of my problem is Northern Ireland's lack of good opportunities, but I don't really want to move.
Ah well, the search continues.
Hey Susie, you guys don't need a human resources manager at thesite? I could keep you guys in line <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/biggrin.gif"> <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/biggrin.gif"> <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/biggrin.gif">
When I was younger I foreswore a solemn oath never to end up working in an office, and a few years later here I am, an office drone.
All I wanna do now is work for a little company somewhere instead of the huge faceless multinational conglomerate I'm at now.
So what are your best assets Susie??

Had some experience - love it <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif">
Unfortunately u have to work for free (in london) for ages to get anywhere <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/frown.gif">
Nevermind, it can be a hobby as an office job (yawn!) will probably be my future!

What makes the desert beautiful is that somewhere it hides a well.

If I can't get into manufacturing I would like to start a vintage car hire company (for weddings and suchlike) and possibly move into railtours.
To all those who want to become accountants, remember people are your best assets: Machines depriciate in value but people appreciate in value (ie, they become more valuable in time).

Aaah cubeville a place i hope never to go to.
However as i'm hoping to join the police full time i will probably end up there! Well if i get out of the office i would like to go into either firearms or dogs, that is to say be a dog handler or a SFO. That way hopefully there will be less paperwork as having such a specialisation will ensure my demand outside the station!

Good for you. I used to be in the ATC and I fancied a job in the RAF, but I'm just not fit enough.

hmmm, RAC is a bit dangerous for my liking. i might join the Royal Artillery - so my ass will be nice and safe where it belongs - 'in the rear with the gear' <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/tongue.gif">
