Who do you think is the most overrated band?

For me it has to be Oasis!

    How exactly are they overrated...no one has ever said they're the best band ever. They made two great albulms and got the respect they deserved for that and also lack of respect for the following one's.

    The Darkness are overrated certainly.

    Arctic Monkeys. Yes they have some originality, but do they deserve the amount of hype they have received? Not at all.

    Without a moment's hesitation - Coldplay. :(

    U2 are pretty fucking dreadful in my opinion, too, yet there are only a few people with whom I can voice that opinion without having Bono's many virtues extolled, and being condescended to about not understanding their music. Give me a break.

    Most of the bands radio 1 play. They make every new artist out to be the best ever... until another comes along.
    I really dislike Jack Johnson, Oasis, U2 and Coldplay, because they're turning into U2 with all this stadium rock.

    As a Coldplay fan, I have to disagree. They definately deserve their attention. How much of them have you heard? It's not Speed of Sound and Clocks that are the good songs... it's:

    Fix You
    Green Eyes
    Swallowed in the Sea (great)
    Beautiful world (their best :p)

    But then again, music is entirely based on opinion.

    Yeah, course musical taste is opinion. But this thread's not about whether the music is good, it's about whether they're overrated or not. Coldplay have redefined the word overrated.

    "Fix You" is godawful.

    I completly agree. Such a snoozer, elevator music is better. Its flat out boring. How they got so popular, god only knows, but then again, turn on the radio and I ask that question over and over again.

    :crying:. They are great. Fix you becomes really tiring, I agree - but their songs are incredibly original, creative and superb, and you just can't change that (more like; you can't change my opinion :p).

    Yes they are overhyped - but i wouldn't say overated.. they've got the goods too. The hype just kind of .. overtook them.

    The Strokes, (though i do like their music..), and a lot of NME hyped bands - one that immediately springs to mind- Gorgol bordelos. UGH. Gypsy punks?! What were they on!?! Oh and The Cribs.. (loved the singles - but the album was shit.) and Clap your hands say yeah.

    Alongside others that have been mentioned : Kaiser Chiefs (who I do think are a good band), Panic! At The Disco, Scissor Sisters and Franz Ferdinand.

    Most of the bands NME go on about are overrated...Editors, Bloc Party (eww!), We Are Scientists...there are others but I can't think right now!

    oh and hardfi! I hate them with a passion! haha.

    Have to agree with 1983. Though i didn't hear about them via NME either - heard most of them when John Kennedy started playing them late night on Xfm.

    Bloc party and coldplay without a doubt.

    They are nothing special yet everyone seems to cream at the thought of them

    Hearing them both makes me want to rip my own ears off
