Just wondering what you guys think is the best seaside resort around the UK.

Yeah yeah i know maybe its not exactly the warmest times at the minute but just looking to go to the seaside for the day with a few people and just wondering what the best resorts are. Good food, good arcades etc etc

Edit: sorry didn't edit anything - just clicked into it by mistake!

Portrush! :hyper: But you're probably not looking to go that far...

Whitby would be my choice in England, or Southport on t'other coast. They're both gorgeous.

Brighton's great for a day trip - great shops/arcades and restaurants - lookit and Bournemouth is also a lively place to go - have fun and wrap up warm ;)

I have to say I'm a bit baffled by the Whitley love, it scares me.

You can't beat South Shields for a freezing cold walk on the beach, wasting hours and a ton on the nudge and a cone of greasy-heart-attack-inducing chips. Class night out as well, if you're good at dodging fists. But you can get your practise in at Whitley Bay first anyhow. ;):p

    Brighton followed by Hastings

Whitby, Alnmouth, or Southport. Allenby for the ice cream.

Soof Sheelz is a nice place to go for a walk, although not on a Saturday night.

I can't understand how anyone can like Whitley Bay. It's horrid. Especially when Tynemouth is just down the coast.

I love Bournemouth... And I used to go to Western Supermare for day trips when I was little, not sure what it's like now but it used to have good arcades and stuff.

i dont see the problem with whitley bay, never had any problems as theres always been at least a minibus full when ive been tho, when Burnley used to play Sunderland, that was our base for the weekend, used to love it, plenty of boozers, everything close together and relatively cheap.

Will these places be open as such, say Blackpool. I have a feeling most of the rides etc will be closed :(

My flatmates went to Scarborough, some stuff was open like the chippys and the amusements but the beach and stuff were deserted.

Well i would imagine the amusements and piers will be open but the rides wont be.

who goes to blackpool for the rides once you are past like 16, its all about the nightlife, the pleasure beach is for the sunday after when you are recovering, of course during the winter thats not an option but you have the bingo in most arcades along the GM...or if you are feeling more adventurous, get in sand castle

Whitley Bay is a complete dive, its chav central, full of scallies fighting on the saturday and racing their saxos on the sunday. South Shields is a little bit better, but not much.

The rides are the only redeeming feature of Blackpool. I'd only go there on the lash if I wanted to get in touch with my inner herpes.

Whitby is great- the chippy and the fudge shop are open all year, what more do you want?

You can't beat Barry's, I dread to think how much of my pocket money I wasted in there. :grump: And the Ghost Train...heh.

I agree with Kermit that the rides are the only good thing about Blackpool, they're certainly the only reason I'd go. Every night out I've had there has been turd.

i think the turd when you go out in blackpool, would be the vast majority of other people drinking there

    its like wanker central

blackpool is just like any other town round these parts tho, always rough. blackpool isnt anymore rough than towns close by such as burnley, blackburn, preston, bolton etc..

all as bad as each other, maybe im just used to it by now.

Yeah but the thing about Blackpool is that attracts misfits from all around, its like the bright lights attract them all. Blackburn, Preston etc haven't got half as many wreckheads as Blackpool.

Blackpool is rough. But then it is the nutty bit that hasn't been digested properly in a county full of squelchy turds.
