Most good quality beglian beers are easily about 7.5%. Anything below 5% in a lager and it has NO taste at all.
It's the same with Marston's now that Wolverhampton and Dudley bought out the Mansfield brewery.
And it's the same with Theakston since they were bought by Scottish Courage.
And it's the same with Black Sheep now that every bugger has heard of them (with the exception of Riggwelter, which is divine).
I don't know how good the ale selection is in Loughborough, but if there isn't much of one if there is a Morrison's supermarket near to you then they have an excellent choice of ales. 4 bottles for £5 too, so it's quite cheap, all in all.
Ooh, I could murder a Newcy Broon.
Have you tried McEwan's Champion Ale? It's Scottish loopy juice, 7.5%
Harder, in fact.
Ock, it was loop juice. But very very delicious.
If you're ever in Bratfud I would invite you to the Symposium
Really? I don't think it is out here - was having a conversation along these lines with a bar maid and she was saying pretty much all of the beers are between 3.5 and 4% nothing close to 5%.
In fairness to Hellfire the beer is pretty weak out here but some of its quite nice . . . and cheap as hell - dollar per mgd (miller genuine draght) on tuesdays . . . 60p a bottle
Awesome!
and no i didn't shag a cheer leader mores the pity
I don't like beer that much
I'm happy with them, i find anything other than carling and pilsner to be drinkable, and for the most part enjoyable.
I support my local breweries ahead of ones away from my area, but I only support breweries with great tasting ale, such as Mordue and Darwin breweries in Tyne and Wear.
The commercia lagers are all well and good, but they are the beer equivalent of a Pizza Hut. They taste alright, you know what you're getting, but they don't have the individuality and the great taste of the independent Italian place next door.
Commercial lagers are brewed to be safe. So they taste safe, i.e. a bit bland.
*is a bit late* but still...that's not even funny. *shudders at thought*
Well it was started with good intent.
Although if you were hoping to turn it around with that insightful comment I wouldn't get your hopes up
