Birthday cake

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I've made a cake for a friends birthday tomorrow, do you think it looks ok ? Not in a self congratually 'ooo you are clever' kind of way :p, but as in does it need anything more. My cookery teacher at school always used to say less is more when decorating cakes.

the fact youve made your friend a cake in the first place is amazing too! never in a million years would my friends be able to/want to make one for mee!

It's called moulding icing, egg white, icing (confectioners) sugar, glycerin, it's soft and plyable and you roll it out like pastry. I used this instead of royal icing as it's a sponge cake underneath. Made the parcels, but the bike's a toy :)

Not THAT clever. James is a biker and he's got this really snazzy orangey bike so saw an orange bike in Morrisson's and thought i'd put it on the cake :) It's also his 30th, so he'll have a little keepsake from the day.

That cake looks shop brought its that good. My mum always used to make birthday cakes when I was younger and me and my brother never cared if it was crap looking, we always liked them for being home made.

Its amazing, i wish i could do that...try putting some icing around the edge of the top of the cake (like on the bottom but on the top)

I was going to suggest the same thing, you could even make it blue piped icing round the edge. And my birthday's in november ;)

I used moulding icing which you can roll out like pastry, why it's so flat.
