I'm craving pasta (most likely spagetti because thats whats in the house) lately but alfredo is too fatty and the man won't eat anything tomato based, suggestions?

Could you use peppers as a base? Perhaps peppers, chilli and garlic? I guess you could add other vegetables in as well like courgette or sweetcorn! Sprinkle with parmesan and hey presto! I would eat it any way :D

alfredo's like really creamy isn't it?

you could make something similar but without the cream using milk... cook up some onion & maybe some mushrooms in some butter, then add some flour and milk (the same way you would a white sauce, add same volume of flour as butter etc) :)

    then add cheese!

nice think and gloopy, but probably still pretty fattening :p

and noodles are Chinese! that what I thought you meant when I clicked this thread :) that said, soy sauce goes well with pasta, I think there was a good salmon dish that used that, cant remember it though I'm afraid :chin:

pesto is nice, or make it fancy like this http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/2915/prawn-sweetcorn-and-runner-bean-pasta.jsp

creamy sauces don't have to be fattening. alfredo is high in fat. try something like this

    or bolognaise?

And here I was hoping for something that just came in a jar. :p

Though those suggestions do sound good, and that picture looked good.

Thank you all so far (and keep em coming ;))

My favourite pasta sauces out of a jar are the Lloyd Grossman ones the flavours are:

    Tomato and Chilli
    Tomato and Basil
    Smokey Bacon
    Puttanesca
    Sweet Red Pepper
    Tomato and Chargrilled Vegetables
    Tomato and Roasted Garlic
    Carbonara

In fact, if I buy a sauce in a jar, I always think this is the best make, the sauces always tend to taste great, especially the Thai Green Curry and the Jalfrezi Sauce. Yum Yum!
