    Nice one man, good luck.

Why don't these people let first time parents on the island?

What is there do to on that Island? What if you wanna go clubbing or go to some bars?

they don't let them give birth on the island as the hospital isn't equiped to deal with any major emergencies, and the first and any over 3 so 4,5,6 onwards are high risk but 2nd and 3rd aren't.

Ohh well I hope it all goes OK.

Out of comptele random noseyness and you can answer when you get back -but when they sent her over did they put her up somewhere or do you just have to hope you have a friend to stay with who lives near the hospital.

you mean they strongly suggest they give birth on the mainland.

If she really wanted to give birth on the island, then it would her absolute right to do so, even if it goes against their advice.

Not saying thats what id do, cos I wouldnt in your situation, but I do get fed up with hospitals and doctors telling people they arent allowed to do this and they arent allowed to do that, when its not actually true, and half the time their reasoning is a bit shakey anyway, and more for their convenience.

I don't get this whole you are so and so cm dilated.

its how wide your cervix has dilated before you can push - you have to be 10cm

Once the cervix is 10 cm dilated, youre ready to start pushing and deliver.

Up until that time, the purpose of all the contractions is to actually dilate the cervix, rather than to push the baby out. It can take a long time to get that far, especially with a first baby, but once shes at 10 cm, she can start pushing, and it wont be long before baby arrives :)

I think it has something to do with how wide you are for the baby to come out, my biology is terrible thou :(

    Congrats to you both!!

Edited- I was beaten to it- but look how unscientific my explanation was :)
