Is there a program out there for cracking RAR files, ones that have been password protected?

    RAR uses 128-bit AES encryption, which is pretty tough. Only way you'll do it is brute-force or dictionary attacks.

    Would probably take a long time. :) It's secure enough for the US government, it's obviously somewhat strong...

    ETA:-

    As of 2006, the only successful attacks against AES have been side channel attacks. The National Security Agency (NSA) reviewed all the AES finalists, including Rijndael, and stated that all of them were secure enough for US Government non-classified data. In June 2003, the US Government announced that AES may be used for classified information:

    dictionary or brute force, if it's a long password you're screwed though.

    was it a file downloaded? it may be a website url or something.

    Also if it's from a torrent site then check the torrent site, someone may of posted the password or it might be in the file description.

    if its a downloaded one i generally whack the name of the rar plus password into google and it finds it. if its got a www.. address in the name of the rar thats usually the password as well.
