how the fuck do you read them?
I've looked at countless explainations on the web and none of them seem to make sence to me....help?

    If you where you have the letters of the strings with random numbers across them, it's something like this:

    E = bottom string
    B = Next string up

    Haven't played for about 2/3 years now, but can check for you tomorrow sometime.

    You're basically looking at an upside down guitar neck.

    So it goes

    E
    B
    G
    D
    A
    E

    So if it has

    E
    19-
    B
    G
    D
    A
    E

    You play the high E on the 19th fret.

    E
    B
    G
    D
    A
    E
    0

    means play an open low E

    If it helps to visualise it:

    2
    3

    is an open G chord

    Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but:
    Sometimes there's also:
    e-1(4)

    doesn't this mean playing the e string, first fret, fourth finger?

    My guitar teacher used to do something like that, whether he'd be teaching us tab or chords.
