Love letters?

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
What's the acceptable age limit for writing love letters?

I've always done it, every relationship I had. I think it's nice to do it when you aint living with someone, because I always forget things I was meaning to say and it's nice to get them to put under your pillow and stuff.

Suppose it's not really necessary when you live together, but I just think it's nice to do stuff like that

Yeah i've had a couple of love letters. Mainly when i was about 15/16. One was 6 pages long :eek2:

But never really sent them. Too worried someone would get hold of it and i'd be forever humiliated.

    love letters

I don't think there is an age limit but it is more something you do when you are away from the person so if you live together there it is less done.

I love getting them and re-reading them. And I send really gross ones too. Plus my bf has a shared letter box so I make the envelopes covered in hearts and stuff to embarass him so all the neighbours see it!

When my bf was in the army I once wrote and put lots of little pink love hearts in the envelope and opened it sat on his bunk bed and they all fell out everywhere.

i sent my first one the other week and i'm 18 lol it's never really been something i've thought of doing but i was going to scotland for a few days and me and the girlfriend had fallen out and i felt really down about it so wrote a letter the night before i went and posted it thru her door at 5am because my train was at like 5:30 so didnt have much time, made me feel better and she really appreciated it and we were ok again.

so there good, just adds that little extra to the relationship i think because shes wrote back and what have ya so it's good, like the old leaving notes in pockets and stuff.

The only time i have ever recieved one was when i had finished with my ex and he was trying to get back with me. He was a tosser tho, i would rather scratch out my own eyes that re-read it.

I have never written one either, i wouldnt know what to put in it and would feel stupid

I don't think there's any age limit, I just think the content (and intent) changes a lot as you get older and start to view love differently.

I wrote and received a lot of love letters when I was younger that just make me cringe now; but I was given a leaving "love" letter the other day by someone who can really write and had so much to say that it was just spectacular. I'm only a tiny bit ashamed to say it made me cry. I like to think I write pretty good love letters, too, when I'm inclined to do so ;)

    I want one!

Ooo this has reminded me of something. My ex was sitting on the bed one time and had an letter poking out his back pocket so I laughed and asked what it was and he looked slightly embarassed so I was like 'ooooooooo izzit a love letter?' and snatched it from his jeans and err it was a breakup letter... NICE :D

I love getting love letters. The only thing is that the two guys I've been out with don't really like writing them. My ex did write a few to me and I still have them after about 6 years.

I have written my boyfriend a few, and sent him me to you cards saying that I was missing him etc when he has gone home but too often the letters I have written him have been explaining how unhappy I have felt or mentioning negative things that we have needed to sort out. However, things are much better nowadays so haven't written anything like that for a while. On friday he goes back down to Cornwall and I won't see him properly for a few months so I shall have to send him quite a few letters as I will miss him like mad, especially as we normally live together so a day without seeing him is bad enough. I think the letters will help a lot, as well as phone calls, emails and texts of course.

I just remembered that I asked my first boyfriend out by writing a note and putting it in his schoolbag. He never said anything about it though for a few days so I asked him if he had found it. He said that he had and that he was thinking...that to me meant no. However, a while later (probably a month or so later) he phoned me up and asked me out!

I get bugger all love letters from anyone!

Got loads in my first relationship. One was actually a whole note book long. Then I got a fuck off massive one when he tried to make me take him back.

I'd really like one though. And I'm almost 19.

Aw I'd love to have one. I've never got one before.

I sent my ex one when I was at uni. We'd been talking on the phone and he was late for work, so he's all 'look I'm really gonna have to go, I'll text you later.' Five minutes later he phoned me again - he'd just got it in the post and he was so touched by it that he made himself even later to work by ringing me to say thanks and he loved me. :D

Unfortunately, he wasn't the brightest of people, and because he was already late he just left it on the mantelpiece in the living room rather than putting it in his room. We both forgot about it til his mum made some comment when I was visiting about two weeks later. The letter was still on the mantelpiece and his little sister jumped up and read the whole thing to his entire family. :grump:

when my bf and i went out before, when i was 14 and he was 18 we wrote a few letters, dunno if you could call them love letters but we just wrote whatever came out
we haven't done it this time round - grown out of it i guess? I've become a lot less expressive so i'd like to be able to pour my heart out again, it would probably do me some good.

Good thread! I wrote more than i can remember back in my school days, but i do remember that they were rarely appreciated! In the last couple of years, i've wrote just the one - but i do think they are a good way of getting what you feel down, especially if now and again, you can be a bit of a retard at expressing yourself - like me!

I love them! Sending and receiving. I usually only get them at occasions though, e.g. Birthday, Christmas, Valentines Day etc. I send the randomly, so when he does get one, he doesn't expect it, nearly had him crying from my last one :) Just feel that they are a superb way to show my feelings to my boyfriend, I'm usually so crap at saying 'I love you' in other ways on a normal day.

I got something along those lines this morning, and promptly burst into tears. It is just indescribably lovely, but definitely doesn't make up for said person not being around.. and almost makes it worse...I think? :grump:

I think I need to get my non-corny writing hat on.. :chin:

Yeah, I thought it was really nice that someone could think of so many ways to express how they felt and how much they missed me.
He drew pictures in it too. Was cute!

I've always wanted to make a guy a scrapbook. Unfortunately, I've never really had a chance.

    Same.

The last 'love letter' I sent was a mini soft-porn mag featuring myself- when words don't express what you're feeling...

Just don't do anything you wouldn't want to fall into the hands of someone else if you were to break up or whatever!

My poses were the sexy secretary, starting with: glasses, a big folder, an austere hair do, smart shirt, slightly innapropriately short skirt, my sexiest boots (which were a present from him). then a 'shocked' I've dropped my folder pose, then bending over to pick up folder etc... like a mini-story.
