Why is United Europe a dream?

2) policing factor
3) people factor

    Yes, but Great Britain is not the only country in Europe, I was thinking bigger...

    It is every countries pride, some only want it if they are in total charge. Others dont want to be controlled by any government or people not their own.

    For people to give something their allegiance it either has to be local enough they can see it, provide benefits nothing else can or be based around a common culture.

    The EU fails on all 3 accounts.

    waste of time and money trying to make it something it isn't. It should just go back to being a trading agreement between nations rather than trying to build itself into a federal state.

    Personally I think there is too much corruption in high places, and police forces esp in mid and Eastern Europe.
    Interpol is nothing but a word.
    And I think it will spill into Western Europe pretty quickly.

    I think at the moment is primarily a people issue, but i think as some big super powers in the world get even bigger, it will be come a necessity for europe to become one.

    First off, a united Europe is not a dream but a persistent nightmare :banghead: Perhaps one reason that unionists wish for integration is the misguided belief that after several millennia of continental fighting; from the Greeks and Turks, the imperialism of Rome, the sectional provinces of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, to the birth of the nation-state, that we will all now just stop. The European imperialism of the 19th century lead to WWI that also lead to (amongst various other factors) WWII. This led to a devastated continent that ostenisbly required a union to stop WWIII.

    Many in France also advocate such a dream because of that idiotic economic policy known as C.A.P *shudders* - this keeps foreign goods out that could sell lower, thus keeping France's agricultural sector (and thus much of France) from drowing - which is of course maintained by the E.U.

    Finally third, with China as a growing world power and the U.S. already there, Europeans perhaps feel that they too need to band together so they have a say in the 21st century world.

    All reasons, but all scary that people actually want a United Socialist Republic of Europe :yuck:

    Hmmm, no such thing as Europe; all of those dictionaries, encyclpaedias, and maps have been lying to us. Europe is the name given to the second smallest continent in the world and the 40 odd countries in it.

    Do a google for pictures of a view from space and have a look for those country borders out there in that marvellous real world. If you find some, do let me know.

    United Europe - Good idea. But conjours up images of Hitlers "Fortress Europa" and of the USSR.

    Plus, all this Nationalist Pride BS and so forth - Small countries just DON'T cut it anymore though - with enemies the size of the USA, China, and Russia coming up, all a posibility - we need to stand together to be strong.

    Plus the ol' immigration stuff too. Sigh. United Europe would rock though. However... if we did it... here's what the USA would probably use as propaganda against us ;p

    Let us see:
    The USA placed Saddam in power. Then turn around and invade him, twice. Then let him be sent to a lame show trial for death. Hmm, loyal freinds. And the USA already hates most of Europe as it is for opposing its occupation of the Middle east.

    China is getting to be a large country with alot of power over the world. It controls so much of our western companies production.

    Russia is on the up again. I daresay this will greatly enrage anyone who was happy at the collapse of the USSR. E.g: Rest of the world.

    Remeber: World Politics changes with leaders. And even without them... nations that are freinds become sword enemies so quickly! And vice versa...

    Sino-Russian relations are a good example. Best of freinds now... not so long ago... at each others throats!

    A United Europe is a dream because the only sort of people who come up with it are insane. Its part of the symptoms, wear pants on head, talks to trees, wants a united Europe. As I recall, the last two people to carry out this ambition and get anywhere were Napoleon (who was compensating) and Hitler (who was insane).

    What is "a united Europe", exactly?

    Last I looked, absolutely nobody whatsoever had ever proposed Europe should be united as one.

    Though that's what the right wing press would have us all believe.
