What we pay our tv licences for...

Has anyone else noticed this and got as pissed about it as me....?!
At I think midnight every night now ITV turns into the most appalingly boring money grabbing game show untill about the time the sun starts coming up. The same happens on ITV2 about an hour later.
Not that ITV ever had the most quality programming, especially at night, but this is just :yuck: we have to pay for this bollocks if we want a tv in our home!
And if you're lucky enough to have digital tv, at 2am now HALF of the music channels, about 7 of them, all switch to another version of this programme where there are simply banknotes pinned to a board, what happens then I didn't find out, one minute of staring at a board with money stuck to it is enough for me. (if of course i can't reach out and take the money)
What are we paying these bastards for?!

 That is what I always thought
Nope. The licence is only for BBC channels. ITV and the like are paid for by the adverts.
The BBC does come out with some excellent programmes. More of and better quality than ITV imho.
Take Planet Earth for a start. And Waterloo Road. And The Street that starts in a couple of days looks interesting.
Much better than Footballers Wifes. Infact one of the only good things on ITV is Champions League footie.
Planet Earth was outstanding! :thumb:
yes there is a fee to have the right to use a tv, but money from that goes to the bbc, none of it goes to itv
Lexx is fucking good... love that show...
Got the pilot too , not on dvd tho...
Got a mate who got first 2 season...
Was damn good...
But come only second in my favorite sci-fi show tho...
Farscape being the first...
I used to enjoy watching The Tribe in the weekend mornings.
I'd rather chrome my bell-end.
I heard even if they knock on your door they have no right to be let in so can't do anything, is that true?
I am now on the "don't bother this man" list.
ITV is shit through the whole day, I couldn't notice the difference!
TV licenses keep the beeb going. I am glad, as the commercial advert channels are toss, and I don't want the beeb to go the same!
You dont have to let them un unless they have a warrent.
PLUS, (some if you're on Freeview): ITV1, 2, 3, C4, Five, SkyTravel, UKTV History, Ftn, ABC1, YooPlay, Men And Motors, E4, E4+1, QuizCall, More4, TheHits, TMF, Community Channel, Sky News, SkySports News, ITV News, Teletext, UKTV Bright Ideas, Ideal World, QVC, BidTV, Price-Drop TV, Teachers TV. I'm including these here because, in theory, you can't watch these channels without the TV license.
Total services listed: 88 (Excluding the BBC WiL websites and Digital Radio)
Price per year: £126.50 (although Freeview is an additional one off cost)
Now, let's look at the cheapest NTL Package (Base Pack):
Channel ntl, Front Row Preview, FX289, Guest Channel, SkyOne, SkyOne Mix, attheraces, British Eurosport, Bloomberg, CNBC, Express Shopping, Screenshop, Stop & Shop, Thane Direct, SkyTravel Extra, Thomas Cook TV, TV Travel Shop, TV Travel Shop 2, Yes 661
Total EXTRA services: 19
Price per year: £132.00
So, I have to pay £126.50 a year - but I get a whopping 88 services. Another £132 will get me 19 extra services, most of which are shite (attheraces - lovely. Front Row? Pay per view movie service. Travel TV? I could go on). Even if the license fee were scrapped tomorrow, or made voluntary, I would much rather pay it to see the variety of BBC channels, rather than pay NTL or whoever to watch 19 channels of shite and leave offensive messages on their customer service system (that gem was courtesy of BBC News, the irony).
Whilst I might not use all of the BBC services, and arguably am subsiding / paying towards services that others use, I use on average 4 TV channels, a couple of radio stations and the BBC News web site. For just over £2.40 a week, with so much choice available, I think things are looking good.
The BBC provide a public service and programming to suit the majority of people's viewing needs - news, comedy, drama and documentary. The BBC News web site is easy to read and informative, and I've yet to find a mass of people who don't surf BBC News when they want to check the news in their lunch hour. And whilst local radio might not be your cup of tea, their national radio again provides for their audience - whether it be new music (Radio 1) through to debate (Radio 4) and sports (Radio 5 Live).
However, there are reservations about the BBC. Some people can't receive all the channels through analogue, so why should they have to pay the license fee - and also, to receive the additional, "free" channels, a one of fee for a freeview box has to be paid.
Rant over, I'm hitting the sack.
ITV is paid for by commercial advertisers, y'know.
The BBC are the thieving cunts stealing £130 a year out of your wallet.
ITV, on the other hand, get to pay £200m a year to the Beeb.
As for all those who are decrying the "shiteness" of ITV, lets not forget that whilst ITV are bringing us Sharpe the "glorious high quality" BBC are bringing us, erm, Hustle.
Now is someone seriously gonna sit there and say that ITV is worse?
It's a good job that the BBC don't do advertising, otherwise I would have thought the TEN MINUTE SEGMENT on yesterday's BBC Breakfast "discussing" the new BBC One "drama" "starring" Jane Horrocks was simply plugging a new product.
