Greetings - Blast From Past!

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Haven't posted here in ages, thought I'd come back and say a long overdue "hello", still seems to be a lot of names I remember (phew..) so all good.. :nervous:

What have I been up to then, in a nutshell (not that anyone really cares), still working through the day in desktop support although now I specialise in PABX administration so my job title will be changing soon. Still DJing, playing out every weekend and also Gatecrasher NZ in December (YAY!!!) and got my first track signed to a UK record label (HWC - http://www.housewiveschoice.co.uk) a few months ago which comes out mid next year. Still promoting too, ran 19 gigs now and am bringing over Phil York in December for Fragile's first Birthday!

Other than that, same old, same old... hows everyone here? :thumb:

Reading my MSN name? lol.. christ, well.. I usually put things up on there, did I ever mention the invite I got via our text machine on our weekly radio show to a swingers club out here called CKK, even got offered a listeners girlfriend to "borrow" if I wanted.. caused some laughs out here thats for sure.

Honestly? I'd say definatly not.. Whats basically happened is that its no longer in the public eye as much as it used to be like say - Hip-Hop/Rap. But attendances at events are still going strong and many new record labels keep surfacing every week.

What we're currently undergoing is the change from a solid based platform ie. Vinyl to a Digital one. What first happened with desktop publishing (type-writers to computers / books to internet) is now happening with music and next will be video. If you look at Digital Sales in the UK, they now outsell CDs and have dramatic impacts on the UK Top 40 chart, hell download charts are popping up around the world. Digital downloads also mean that a label can sign a track and have it released at a minimum cost thus saving them money (without the need for pressing/distribution/trade expenses) and this is opening up a whole new market - which finally the music industry is now embracing.

I wrote an article a couple of months ago about the digital music revolution which you might be interested, its been published across a fair few channels out here:

    http://www.biggie.co.nz/editorial/articles/00142/The-Digital-Generation-of-Music.html

Because its now less popular than it used to be, from a mainstream point of view, those who are into it are becoming a lot more specialised than they used to be, people now know what they want and like instead of just liking it because its "dance music".

Skive likes the much harder & faster end, the more underground sound.. not to say it isn't good, but there are less people whom like this when you compare it to say house (think Ministry of Sound as a very commercial example) or trance (paul van dyk/tiesto etc.)

As for me, I've never been busier and attendance at events is on the increase:

    28th October - Hardhouse @ Ibiza, K'road
6th November - UPFM Spring Break @ Waiwera Infinity Thermal Resort
    25th November - 3 Zero @ Bacios
    2nd December - Gatecrasher @ Code/Met
9th December - Global Panic Feat. Phil York (UK) @ Kiss
    16th December - Lil Lisa's Birthday @ Bacios
    31st December - Genesis 06 @ Kiss

Hopefully that answers your questions :thumb:

Hi Goodfella, nice to meet you, hopefully anything you've heard isnt too bad (probably all true tho, so I wont deny it) :p

I'm a UK hard trance DJ who emigrated here from the UK about 4 years ago, I've promoted 19 events including brands such as Tidy Trax NZ, Fragile, Nitro and Global Panic NZ - having toured Paul Maddox, Guvyer, Technikal, Carl Nicholson and PHATT/ReBirth to NZ shores for the first time. I've support 32 internationals including Armin Van Buuren, Lisa Lashes, Tidy Boys, Steve Hill, Lee Haslam etc. I've also held a weekly saturday night (8-10pm) radio show on 107.5/88.3 UPFM (http://www.upfm.dj) for the last 3 years which aims to play the latest in UK hard trance.

Theres a mixset I did from a couple of months ago here:

    http://www.n2oevents.net/justinsane_initforthechicks.mp3

I still manage to hold down a regular 9-5 day job which is incredibly boring, but its good money so I hold onto it to support my weekend activities. Thats basically it in a nutshell... still got a lot to achieve yet and maybe just one day I'll be able to make this full-time but who knows :banghead:

I also used to post here almost religiously from 2001 up until early 2005 but I backed off a bit cause I got too busy, which was a shame cause theres so many lovely people on here.
