Well, that's if you believe this delightful gentleman.

To be generous, I'm going to say that he should think more carefully before opening his mouth...

The guy wrote, "The Book of Virtues." Must be an oxymoron.

A bizarre way to remind everyone of the black underclass in America. Hardly an appropriate solution though.

Bennett said his comments had been mischaracterized and that his point was that the idea of supporting abortion to reduce crime was "morally reprehensible."

Did he make any apology for the terrible racism!

This man also makes a good point.

Statement of Rev. Johnny M. Hunter, National Director-Life Education And Resource Network

"It is absolutely hypocritical of people who call themselves pro-choice to criticize William Bennett for his comment when they have been pushing abortion down the throats of the black communities for years. If a news agency plays only a part of Bennett's speech to paint him as a racist, it is a desperate attempt to fan the flames of racial uneasiness in this nation at the expense of black children. Bennett stated that it is 'morally reprehensible' to abort black babies to reduce crime and that statement was ignored. What is also ignored is the fact that Planned Parenthood, following the agenda of its racist founder, Margaret Sanger, does consider aborting blacks to be helpful to society. Which is worse, one who talks about the wrongness of aborting black babies or the one who aborts black babies?" --Rev. Dr. Johnny M. Hunter, DD, National Director of the Life Education and Resource Network, L.E.A.R.N., the nation's largest African-American pro-life group

but it vclearly was a really racist comment to make. It's the same as saying 'I'd rather my daughter married a black man than lived in sin with a white one'

double meanings and one is racist.

that quote is from a pro lifer who obviously has an agenda!

What? Don't be silly! Pro-lifers don't have agendas - they're on a mission to deliver the TRUTH to everyone! Don't worry about glossing over the racist comment - remember, you can just counter it, and totally miss and ignore the point by telling everyone that Sanger was a racist.

    ;)

And while we're on the subject of Margaret Sanger, many of the quotes attributed to her were false. Statements such as
"More children from the fit, less from the unfit — that is the chief issue in birth control."

were actually made by the editors of American Medicine in a review of her article.

Martin Luther King Jr must have been on something when he said,
There is a striking kinship between our movement and Margaret Sanger's early efforts. . . . Our sure beginning in the struggle for equality by nonviolent direct action may not have been so resolute without the tradition established by Margaret Sanger and people like her.

Something that the pro-lie movement likes to gloss over

Possibly because it hadn't been raised as an option by anyone previously.
Which is worse, one who talks about the wrongness of aborting black babies or the one who aborts black babies?

But why is the comparison even necessary? Isn't is possible that both are wrong, and degrees of "wrong-ness" are irrelevant

Hardly a source without an agenda to push however - an anti-abortion evangelical Christian group.

The black pro-life group have pretty much owned this issue.

What Bennett said was wrong, I had to laugh when I first heard it, but if you read his full statement it becomes obvious that this is not a racist (or to use the correct term: racialist) we are talking about. The utterly absurd hysteria that people whip up, as one can see from this thread, screaming racist or nazi until are ears bleed is quiet repulsive and rather scary. If you are dealing with racists, like the BNP for example, it is better to challenge their opinions in intelligent and honest debate.

Everyone has an agenda Blagsta, it's what makes the world go round.

Yes I'm well aware of that. However an anti-abortion evangelical Christian group is hardly likely to have an informed view on criminology and social problems.

Other than the connection which he makes between blacks and crime. No-one else made it. His moral objection was about using abortion to affect crime, not the link between race and crime.
