Not exactly the same, but close enough for an interesting comparison...

Killer Typhoon in China, including mass evacuation and flooding...

Thoughts?

    As the document already states, it's not all that uncommon a thing in Asia, I'm sure they're well used to that sort of stuff by now.

    Actually Katrina was actually a category 4 when it hit New Orleans. Not unheard of by any means.

    Hurricanes are a very common occurence in the area. And in addition numerous scienticts have been given ample warning of the danger New Orleans could be in.

    The (lack of) contingency plans and the handling of the disaster by the US has been simply appalling.

    Any preparations that could have been made would only have protected from a category 3 storm. WHats more this is one of the biggest hurricanes ever recorded to hit the continental USA.

    No folld defences, planned or not, would have made an inc of difference.

    I think plans for evacuation in the case of emergency could have made a huge difference to be honest. Plans for finding emergency accomodation and supplies such as water, food and medicine would have helped too.

    All them things plus more could have been done that weren't, though it still wouldn't stop Matadore making excuses for the great US of A.

    China pwns USA.

    The fact is, the Chinese were better prepared and didn't fart-arse about. They acted. They rescued, they evacuated, they helped.

    The USA stood about thinking "Oh noes, what do we do?" and people died. Plus, they were black and poor, which in the USA means you are expendable anyway.

    Oh, for goodness sakes.

    The Chinese weren't better prepared at all, the cyclone was less powerful.

    The regular flooding and deaths prove that China don't care on a far more regular basis.

    the trouble with all governments is ...they have to suck up to the ruling elite ...or destroy them.
    they usualy suck up as the ruling elite control everything.
    the richer the country the bigger and stronger that elite.
