    I don't gamble.

However, I do love those little fruit machines :p

Surely that means you gamble though? :p

Yup heh its weird how some people dont see fruit machines in pubs as gambling but i know people who can spunk more on those things than in a casino or betting shop

I gamble, Poker, Sports betting, fruit machines.

Personally I enjoy it. Never bet more than I can afford to lose.

My mate messaged me on msn at 2.05am a couple of nights ago saying " you'll never guess what, i just won £2550 " .. to which i replied get to fcuk, he showed me a screenshot and proved it, oh and he was playing online poker via William Hill online, lucky git he is.

I've never been in a casino myself but have wanted to experience it, my auntie goes all the time, my cousin, her son is one of those supervisor types, he's been all around the world doing that job.

and as for me i have never gambled, proper gambled i mean. Horse racing etc.

Me and my mates often have nights where i drag the gambling table up, we get the biggest bottle of whiskey avaliable and a few cans and change card games, board games etc into drinking games, where the winner ends up drinking more hence impairing his/her ability to play as well, meaning any money we bet ends up even-ish at the end of the night :p

I'm a sucker for fruities and visit the casino once every couple of months.
Have tried playing poker with my mates but it just ends up getting stupid when we get too drunk.

the only time i gamble is over at friends houses or with people I already know. I don't do it often though because I'm a lousy card player. I once lost 15 dollars in 9 minutes play Texas Hold'em with 5 dollar buy-ins.

Well Rollerchick I'm sure you know the edge the house has, plus I'm sure as well as the happy people you see in your casino having a good time, those people for whom gambling is a way to have a good night out, you will also have noticed the people who come back night after night, the people who lose, nearly every night, those who chase there losses, those who lose their families, friends and self respect.

The worst thing that can happen to someone is that they have one bet and it wins, because then often you think this is easy, and you carry on betting, doesn't matter that by the end of the week you have lost more than you won originally, you think the betting shop, national lottery or casino only has my money on loan, but you never get it back, you just loan more money to the betting shop, national lottery or casino.

Whatever you bet on, (well apart from which raindrop reaches the bottom of the window first or a toss of a coin), the casino, betting shop, lottery operator, has an edge it's always in their favour, your never playing on a level field.

I thought I could beat the system once, lost a lot of money, in the end I realised I couldn't beat the system, the good thing is that I don't have a "gambling gene", I looked at the profit and loss and saw that whatever I did, I was always in the red, so I quit.

As for fruit machines, I've tried that 2-3 times when I was a teenager, took my wife to a casino, a few months ago, she ended up lossing $50, I was up $5 on the blackjack table, why very simply because she played every hand, while I knew when to quit.

My thoughts on gambling.... it's too easy to gamble, to lose more money than you can afford to and to screw you life and your families lives up, I accept that for some people it's fun, but for some of those people who are having fun today, they arn't going to still be having fun, one week, one month 6 months from now, they are going to be struggling to pay bills, lieing to their partners and contimplating suicide.

I have to say I am anti gambling. I spent a few days in Vegas and didn't gamble once. I found the place depressing. People can make their own choices and I don't begrudge anyone who chooses to gamble but I just see it as a negative thing. I suppose it's about attitudes to money..I believe you should work for your money and look after it responsibly once you have it.

as long as it's your money, and you don't need it for other things (feeding your kids, paying the mortgage) then yeah, why the hell not.

i don't generally gamble myself cause i don't know when to stop and would lose all my money.

Where as I believe that the money you work hard for should be spent how you like. What's wrong with spending money to have fun?

Do you never go out on the town?

Yes I do go out. But when I go out I get something for my money, eg drinks, entrance to a club, a meal etc. I just see gambling as throwing money away and as I don't have much money I don't want to do that.

I'd rather not take that chance...maybe it's a personality thing. I like certainty and I like to know where my money is going and what I get for it. I've never had much money and have learned to be careful with what I have.

Well when you buy drinks you money goes down the pan and you get a hangover. Responsible? No it isn't, but it is fun.

Ha, yeah I guess you could put it like that but at least I get something for my money. I get something solid I can touch, and I get to have a nice time. Some people may class sitting in a bookies as a nice time but I wouldn't. None of the people in there look particularly happy when I go past, I tend to associate gambling with sad old men. I know that's not always the case, the casinos are trying to make it big here, making it look glamourous and attractive to young people. My experiences in Vegas will stay with me...just found it really shallow and depressing.

In Melbourne there's a massive casino complex, which doesn't involve "sitting in a bookies". It's just the same as spending the evening in a nightclub where drinks cost the earth. The only trouble with casinos is that people easily become addicted to gambling...

Though a gambling addiction would be far more preferable than an alcohol addiction.

Tell that to the many thousands of people who have lost their house, friends and family through gambling.

I'd say it's easier to become addicted to gambling, and it's undoubtedly more expensive.

It won't kill you though and isn't physically addictive.

And how is it easier to become addicted to gambling?

It wont kill you, the Samaritans will give you a different answer, they get calls every month from people so far in debt because of a gambling addiction that they see suicide as the only way out.

Gambling can be addictive, just as alcohol can, some people are a lot more likely to became addicted, there is a lot of research that suggests that there is a genetic reason for a gambling addiction just as there is for alcohol addiction.

Here's something you might like to read Skive.
    http://www.addictionrecov.org/qandagam.htm

Plus you ask how is it easier to became addicted to gambling, well go in any cafe or pub every travelling fair or at the seaside, what do you see fruit machines and penny slots, look at the people playing these machines it's often kids or teenagers often people who arn't old enough to drink.

Take any sporting event on tv now, look at the ads, look at the perimeter advertising, look at the sponcers, there are a hell of a lot of bookmakers promoting there products at these events.

Gambling is now seen as sexy, it's not the old image of the old men smoking and drinking away in the local betting office, it's now something you can do
online, all you need is a credit or debit card.

The National Lottery and scratch cards, you can play at 16, and the ads say you can win millions, have you ever been behind a queue at a supermarket or corner shop, and seen pensioners or young mothers buying £10 of scarch cards, cards you know they can't really afford. It's government backed as well, so it must be good, but it's turning people into gamblers.

Casino's,what do you think of when you think casino's James Bond, beautifull girls Monte Carlo, thats the image they like to show, but most of the people who bet at casinos, are people who can't really afford to, or people chasing losses.

Bingo, a favorite amongst women, just a fun night out with the girls, but for some it too becames addictive.

Yes it is very easy to became addicted to gambling, and very easy to screw up your lfe.
