I love my job

I've worked in Smiths for a year and on Saturday they decided to promote me which was quite cool. I've been working on the front tills for the past year but now I'm on books where I have a phone to answer, the book ordering computer to work, and the magazine ordering system to sort out.

They told me I was going to be doing that when I arrived at work on Saturday, I had no training and had to work it all out for myself, plus for the second half I was supervising a new employee, and was in charge of locking up the back of the store and sorting out the tills at the end of the day. Shows they trust me I guess

My job is alright. They pay me well and are nice to me, and I'm the only one working so I can get away with more than most people I suppose (ie listening to music, reading novels, posting on thesite)... It's certainly NOT what I want to be doing for the rest of my life but it's good for a summer job.

love my job. hate my boss.

actually marketing communications is what i was built for. i love doing the marketing, advertising and promtion of my company's products.

however, we are a technology start up, so there's always the risk that i could be unemployed before the day's out.

oh well, life of a start up.

i dont mind my job so much. i work on the deli "counter" (there isnt technically a counter lol) at asda 3 days a week, making pizzas, slicing meats, working on the curry pot, etc. there are aspects i dont enjoy. i mean like cleaning down the entire place at night on 2 days. having to spend too much time in the chiller as i only wear a t shirt in the deli prep room and so its pretty damn cold!!

i like most of the people i work with. well especially the saturday staff. thursdays i work with someone i really dont get on with and also on fridays, but theres someone else who im indifferent to so its better than just me and little mr annoying. and the boss's assistant type persn who has a slight bit of authority is the same age as me and didnt like me at school so he picks on me a bit and makes me feel stupid. and ive been ill a lot recetnly and now ive had this thing go on my file about my absences (my rate is like 5% or something and only 3 is acceptable) and basically im not allowed any more days off sick in the next 26 weeks. wtf do they expect me to do if im throwing up or have flu and cant even get out of my bed??? crazy fools. oh and im paid well so its not so bad.

and its only a part time job to earn money for uni (afore mentioned semi-slave driver finds this highly objectionable) and im only going to be doing it until i get a full time job after uni, or until i find a better part time one thats flexible in terms of working at uni and also when i come home in the holidays.

oh why cant i just write short replies?! lol

I'm happy in my job, I'm in a nice office on flexi-time, my jobs not really that difficult, good pay and I can spend plenty of time on here each day chatting... can't really argue with that can I?

Of course I'd love to do other things don't get me wrong, if truth be known I'm only working here short-term in aim to get myself some qualifications so I can use this job as a fall back and instead go properly for professional radio broadcasting...

But in the mean while, I'm quite happy..

Yep. Love it.

I'm working in the NHS looking at modernisation. Guess I comes back to my "make a difference" ambition.

Shame about the shit money though. Still can't take it with me when I go, can I?

I don't like my job, I just like the people I work with. They make it fun. If I didn't like all my workmates I definitely wouldn't be working there. Same way, if they left, I'd leave. I work in a restaurant btw in a department store. Tres posh but I'm not

btw justin do you have any messengers?

I can't believe that i'm the only one on these boards that hates their job!

It's so mind numbingly boring that I find myself falling asleep at about 2pm.

There are only three other people that work there, all of them are about 30-35. One of them is from Syria and the other two are from Pakistan. We have absolutly nothing in common and they always stand around talking in some language that I can't understand. I'm always paranoid that they're talking about me.

I'm getting paid £3.40 a fucking hour and i'm 22. I realise that this is below the minimum wage but they're getting round it by saying that i'm still training. I can't afford to quit and I haven't got time to go to the job centre to find anything else. I'm buying job papers but no-ones looking for staff, everyone just wants 'Managing Directors' and the like.

They asked me to bring in some cds to play in the shop and everytime I do they turn it off to put Micheal Jackson's "Off the wall" album. It's not like I take in anything really wierd or shit, just REM and some hip-hop(which I know they like cos they've told me).

I'm going to take a day off on the sick and make it my mission to find a job that doesn't suck ass.

Up until a month ago I was freelancing in web development. I enjoyed the luxury of working remotely from home while spending loadsa time with my daughter.

I have contracted for some really nice managers but I dealt with one bad one that ended up owing me shit loads of money for some projects I worked on last year!

This put me off so I decided to try and make the move into a full time permanent role. I actually managed to get myself an interview with the bloody BBC for a trainee web producer position. It was really scary but an excellent opportunity. The only problem being, there is a 5 year waiting list for their 'employee day nursery'!

After my tax and NI, my commuting costs and expensive private day nursery fees, it just wasnt worth it. They offered me a 2nd interview but I turned it down.

This is the same problem with all the positions the recruitment agencies wanna put me forward for, so I am now applying to go back to Uni because I left my degree to have my little girl in 1998.

By the time I have finished uni, she will be starting school so I won't have to worry about nursery fees when I am ready to start my career again.

As for web development.... I love it!

My job's OK, standard office BS for a large mutli-national conglomerate. The people and atmosphere are really relaxed which I like, but the job itself is really dull which I don't. To combat this I've logged on here, keeps me looking busy by typing instead of staring gormlessly out the window.

I like my job, but this is the first job where I've been able to say that.

I'm an accountant for a media company which sound dull to many people but is really interesting to me. The funny thing is that being an accountant is the last thing I thought I would do for a living. I hated math through school and took psychology at university. But when I finished school and looked for work I was offered some office work helping with data entry part-time. After 5 years there, I'm the head of my department, being paid well and doing really interesting work.

I guess I'm saying that it's worth trying different things because you may end up with not just a job, but a career you love.

Depends waht time of year it is.
I'm a greenkeeper and in the summer all I do is sit on fuck off big mowers and cane about the course. In the winters it's a proper shit job.

Hours change depending on what time of year it is. At the moment I start at 5 and it's 7:30 in the winter.

Pays alright as I still live at home. I'm in college once a week as well doing Turf Course Management - sounds intresting dosn't it.

NO! which is why i'm looking at this site but its too interesting and i should be applying for jobs but i;m writing to u guys *eek*
jobs should b like uni, they should change topics every three months. too many bosses (like mine) find someone to do a certain task and then leave them there to grow cobwebs. you inundate them with ideas but they're like terry pratchett's trolls, it's like they can't think during daylight.

I have 3 jobs and 2 of them kick ass!

The ones I enjoy: I play piano for an orchestra and earn 20 dollars an hour. I have 4 rehearsals a week, and 2 hour rehearsals. But they're going to cut them down to 2 which is also good.

I teach little kids piano, and they're SOO CUTE!! I only have 4 students and I get 7 dollars for half an hour.

The one I don't like: I tutor this kid who is SOO WEIRD!! He's psycho!!!! But I get 20 dollars an hour, and I tutor him an hour every day from monday to friday. I'm going to stop tutoring him because I'm afraid of him. He'll like stare at me and be like you're really pretty, and he has this psycho dog and made the dog chase me around the house!!!

You do not want to do that. It will run you down until you have no will to live. I was there for 4 years and it slowly kills you.

I used to work there as well mate. I was only there for a few months cause I got sacked for having a smoke on the close. Some people who I worked with that were the same age as me had been there years and are still there.

Well Im bloody lucky, I love my job, I take photos. But I have always said, "you work to earn money, you need to earn money to enjoy yourself and to forget about your job, if you have a shit job you need to forget about it more, it you have a good job, you dotn need to spend as much to foget about it, therefore, it is eccanomically incorrect to do a job that u hate as u need to spend more than u earn to forget about the job."
Sorry, but that is not quite correct but i have had a dring.
