Work Experience

Anyone else do Work Experience over the last couple of weeks? I got to go to the local newspaper office, sounds great, doesn't it, but not when my job for the first couple of days consisted of folding papers (you should have seen the paper cuts), rolling those papers to be sent to subscribers and sticking stamps (thank God for the new sticky stamps!).

Anyone else get stuck with some mind numbing placement, or do anything really interesting coz I'd love to hear about them.

I did that too (worked at a vets). I didn't like it though cos I couldn't do much. I ended up talking to the animals all the time. All the people there treated me like I was a dumb kid.
I learnt that i don't want to work in a vets either. I'm gonna be a college lecturer instead. I'm not clever enough anyway. I think every kid wants to be a vet "when I grow up", but now I know you have to have like straight A*s.

I did my work experience as a mechanic in a Volkswagen dealer (this was quite some time ago and the dealer has moved premises recently) and for the most part it sucked. The experienced workers seemed to resent my presence (as I was only learning I was much slower than the time-served guys so I slowed them up ). It did have its good moments, though - going for a test drive in a Golf VR6 (ooh yeah ) and going to the parts warehouse (away from all those grouchy mechanics).

i once spent a day supposedly 'work shadowing' an engineering geologist. in practice, i typed all morning, did some stupid little exercise like 'what 3 things would u take 2 a desert island' that had no bearing on engineering geology and then spent the afternoon standing on the edge of a quarry whilst some student took samples 4 her dissertation! . . . . . . .

    Because I want more stars.

I did my school work experience at a charity for blind people. I really enjoyed it, I spent each day in a different department and I even went back in the summer once a week to do voluntary work.
