EXCLUSIVE - Home Affairs Select Committee REPORT EARLY!

Just been speaking to some ‘Hobbits and Elves’, who had been involved in giving evidence to the Home Affairs Select Committee, and have therefore received a copy, together with the media, of both the 'executive summary' of the report (not full report, which is out at 10am in morning) and David Blunkett’s reply.

As expected the report calls for:
1) Cannabis to be re-classified from Class. B to Class. C
2) Ecstasy to be re-classified from Class. A to Class. B
3) The treatment of Heroin addicts, inc. provision of treatment & injecting rooms.

Overall, they strongly recommend the transfer of priorities from the criminal justice system to treatment in respect of all drugs, however they do not call for full legalisation across the board, in the short-term.

They seem to want to keep the door open for discussion over the next few years, and probably consider that the future of legalisation should be discussed by all nations through the UN.

David Blunkett will say that much of its contents had been supported by his previous comments, but that he would strongly be against re-class of 'E'

This summary doesn’t go into further detail yet!

You heard it here FIRST!

Apart from Blunketts stance on E... wonder if he'll sway at all.
