coffee

On any given day, I drink about 4-5 mugs of coffee. Not just a regular mug but one of those excessivly oversized travel mugs. I've heard by and by that this is not all that healthy but I do not know why. If somebody could explain the effects of too much coffee and how much is too much.

Apparently drinking that much coffee will dramatically reduce your risk of contracting type 2 diabetes so its not all bad. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2004/01/040106081416.htm
Im not sure whether the other risks outweigh that though.
Make sure you drink other drinks too to keep your fluids up.

the main problem with people that drink alot of tea and coffee is that they drink it INSTEAD of other fluids, besides the coffee you need to drink the reccomended 1.5litres a day of water/other fluids. its bad for your body in the sense it dehydrates you, like GWST said. tea and coffee don't count towards your fluid RDA.

In small amounts, caffiene poses little health risks, but in greater amounts they can affect the mucus lining of the stomach and cause acid production there to be greater.

According to the American Dietetic Association,
For most healthy adults, 200 to 300 milligrams of caffeine per day – about two to three cups of coffee – pose no physical problems.
