Repeat offender speeding peer escapes driving ban

But what's new eh? Whether you are a footballer, police superintendent or politician, just say you're too important or famous to be banned from driving (even though you could get a chauffer), and presto! Carry on, nothing to see here.

    I wonder if you could get away with that defence if you worked behind the counter at the local Oxfam?

    Perhaps he is "grand vizier" or whatever of the local masons or something. Rich folk usually get away with things because they can afford decent representation but this one does seem a little mystifying.

    If memory serves David Beckham, and a few other footballers in the last few years, managed to escape a ban on the basis that they are "too famous" to use public transport or taxis. That was good enough for them to escape the ban.

    Shame it didn't occur to the judge that David Beckham can 'probably' afford a chauffer to drive him to places...
