Paying to receive texts whilst abroad: Fact or fiction?

I have heard many people going on about how they hope people do not text them whilst they are out of the UK as they will have to pay to receive the messages.
Is this true however?
has anyone been charged to receive a text message when abroad? :chin:
(texts from normal privately owned mobiles as opposed to those stupid commercial ones that charge £1.50 in the UK)

The person in the other country get's charged, not sure it's that much tho. Your best bet is to phone up your provider just to be sure.
