hepatitis B

hi i was chatting to a mate the other day and he very casually pointed out to me that a lad that i had oral sex with had hepatiitis B but he also said that it was about a year and a half ago that he had it and that he doesnt have it anymore. i still cant help but worry about this, is there any way that i could have caught the disease please help.

    It's certainly possible. People can carry Hep B for years and not feel any bad effects. Get yourself to your doc's, or your local GUM clinic and they'll screen you. If you haven't got it, i'd suggest you ask for the Hep B vaccination. It can knock you around a bit, but its far better than gettin hep B. The GUM clinic will be faster to get you screened.

    Do not underestimate the severity of this disease as it is highly transmissible due to it's relatively high concentration within the bodily fluids of infected individuals and the ability of the virus to enter the bloodstream through open wounds, sores and other less frequent ways.

    Good advice is to consult your GP, a specialist GUM or STI clinic for a Hep B test and vaccinations.
