Menieres Disease

Just wondering if any of you know about, heard of or even suffer from Meniere's Disease....

I have had this illness since I was 11 (Im 22 now) and its been on and of for the last few months.

If you havent heard of it heres a quick summary...

Its similar to Tinnitus, you get the ringing in your ears etc... but you also get extreme dizziness which can happen any time without warning and can last anything from a few seconds to hours. It also causes hearing loss and/or total deafness in some cases (I only have 20% hearing in my right ear)

Unfortunately not alot is known about it, the causes and what triggers off the dizzy attacks. There are a few ways of controlling it but they dont work with everyone, and even then they dont work all the time.

There is an operation that I am thinking about having to stop the dizziness... though its quite a scary one and abit of a risk to take.

Also the average age of having this is 60! <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/redface.gif">

So I just wanted to know what anyone knows or if anyone knows anyone with it or has it thereselves...

Thank you and peace out

My Dads got this and so did my Grandad. I know its really horrible cos when he does have an 'attack' it makes him really ill for like 2 days and he has to stay in bed. He takes Serc tablets I think...something like that.

Probably would be Serc or Betahistine tablets..... Im on 3 a day during a good period and anything up to 9 during an attack.

Its a shit atm as I lost my job back in Febuary due to it and have been advised not to work for the forseeable future <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/frown.gif">
Though I have applied to a residential College in Nottingham to do a web-design course, so hopefully I will start there soon.

Its just so boring just stuck at home most of the time, my mates are at work during the day or at uni, and by the evening I feel absoloutely drained.... I havent even had a good night out for ages... and if I do go out on a Saturday night Im usually home by 11pm... early I know but I just get such bad earache or the pressure in my ears builds up and that hurts alot when theres loud noises around me.... I have got a hearing aid but I dont like wearing it that much as it distorts the sound sometime plus it feels v weird hearing in both ears and it does freak me out a bit when I hear stuff like cars, lorrys etc in that ear that I havent heard anything proper for about 10 years...

    Ah well <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif">
