I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by.

In the event of my death I wish to donate any part of my body - which still works after years of chemical and alcohol abuse - to help someone live - or at least get canned off having it
Seriously tho... its a really good idea
i think opt out would be a good idea because i expect there are tons of people out there who would donate but just haven't been bothered to register. any controversy would also bring more publicity.
on the cornea thing, its odd isnt it, i mean, you dont need the eyes, but they do seem kind of special. what is it about the eyes? is it because they are the windows to the soul? or is it because they are external? would it make a difference if the eyes were replaced with false ones?
did you know that as well as carrying a card, you should register by sending off a form? and of course it should always be discussed with the next of kin because i suppose they would have the final say so.
i'm glad to see there are some people here you have had the foresight to take it seriously

There not any more special than any other part of the body, I mean I always thought perhaps if we're on that type of topic either the brain or heart, perhaps the eyes are something to do with the fact that person would be seeing the world through someone elses eyes (if you know what I mean) or that indeed the eyes could transmit signals to the dead person or something... bahhh.. too phylisophical...
The idea of having a part of you continue living in someone else is pretty kool...
i think i know why, having read some of your posts, but i think you can still donate your corneas and your heart valves

I understand why you think like this but what about the person who can't see and only needs a corneal graft?
I work in the NHS and there are few things better than meeting a patient after they have had their sight restored. Think how you would feel if you couldn't see...
P.S. Also worth checking out the Action and Volunteering forum - has more about donation on there...
The triumphs of today will echo for eternity
i can see what you're saying tho man of kent.

I think the "opt out" things a gr8 idea, most people have nothing against organ donation, just never got round to registering. Ive carried a card for about a year, ill donate anything, its no use to me so it may as well go to help someone else.
Who's name does God use in vain?
Nah you don't - I'm 16 and I've had my card for years.
