Nelson Mandela: a forgotten speach?

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Some of us can remember when Mandela was released. Some of us can remember the joy that was created on that day, and some of us will never forget the words spoken at Mandela's inaugural speech in 1994

If I may reproduce
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?

Actually, who are you NOT to be?

You are a child of God.

Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.

It’s not just in some of us; it’s in EVERYONE!

And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
Lest we forget :)

If you don't like the thread sunny boy...don't post on it.

Anyway...the reason for this thread is to highlight Mandella's words from 10 years previously. When he was released from his 28 years of incarceration, many of us thought that a new light was shining on the world and that with his release, a powerful movement of international solidarity for both justice and freedom would ensue.

It didn't really work out that way entirely...but at least we should not forget the hopes and the dreams of those wonderful halcion days.

We are now awaiting for the next spark...could it be that the murderous occupation of Iraq will be that spark?

    Just a thought like :)

one is allowed to have thoughts on these boards are they not??

Hmmm, perhaps we should also remember the great lengths the apartheid state and its media went to, in order to present her as an evil woman - as for corruption and greed - are you suggesting she made more money than the Apartheid Ministers?

Its a standard ploy - everyone clucks about how evil she was - and fails to put what happened into context ........

Winnie Mandela, to this day, has a lot of grass roots support in South Africa - the powerful politicians don't like that ......

    :)
