to the Liberal Democrats.
How unexpected, well i think so anyway. Surely it would be the first time the Liberal Democrats have had the support of a national newspaper in a general election? Also hasn't the paper been a strong Labour supporter for a number of years. If it happens though I would not have expected it!

In my opinion we will only get the real picture at the next election, things seem to be changing a bit.
Perhaps they should be switching their support to a truly socialist party such as the SWP, but then again the Guardian is by no means a truly socialist paper.
The Lib Dems are not left wing either- I'd imagine the Guardian is going tactical and simply would like a hung parliament and Labour having to make a pact with the Lib Dems to govern- which seems a very appealing prospect to me.
In terms of seats yes.
In terms of influence no.
The Lib Dems won't win the election, but the votes they win will stop one of the big parties from winning.
When the Sun tells its readers to vote a particular party a good chunk of them will. It’s not the same with the Guardian; most Guardian readers will already be Labour or LibDem and I doubt the paper switching his support will have any major effect.
It's not so much circulation as reputation or political weight.
not me though.
It’s well known that the Guardian and Independent have among the lowest circulations out of ‘quality’ newspapers; the Times and Telegraph having the highest. (FT is probably pretty low too) Out of the tabloids the Sun is highest isn’t it? Then the Daily Mail I think or the Mirror. Check out ABC website or something if you’re that bothered.
Oh and Aladdin, isn’t the Spectator a weekly magazine? Not a newspaper making your comparison with it to the Guardian’s circulation pretty er invalid.
Daily Mail: 2,442,875
Daily Mirror: 1,793,718
Daily Express: 960,320
The Daily Telegraph: 900,702
Daily Star: 899,773
The Times: 660,906
The Guardian: 376,314
The Independent: 264,594
From here period 30 Aug 04 - 03 Oct 04.
Using Disillusioned's arguments, the Daily Star is 33% more influential than The Times, or The Guardian and The Independent combined. It is as influential as The Daily Telegraph.
I shall say again: eh?
No , but id say the New Statesman is.
I bow to you, mighty provider of pie.
The Guardian’s readership is a fraction of that of the Sun and seeing as many dispute how influential the Sun is (it’s widely disputed that the Sun won the Tories the 92 election) I don’t think the Guardian has much political sway.
As so many of its readers are in the public sector it probably has a lot of influence on the government in office but on which party gets elected I’m not so sure.
It depends how you define political importance.
And it depends on what you have to influence.
Most constituencies in the UK have no political influence- they are fixed to one party or the other, and they will never change. The ones that are influential tend to be populated by people who read quality newspapers.
your views and ideas change nothing.
making you powerless.
the world is driven by all things antagonistic to human develpment and freedom ...all of it divides us into camps of for and against. seperating us and dividing us.
where is the grass roots of harmony ...harmony has been resigned to the foolish and the dreamers.
harmony and common purpose have been hijacked to such a degree as to be the domain of dreamers and fools ...that said
we as people do have the power to bring all this world bullshit down to somrthing we can rise up against but ...those of us who dare think in the common comunity of the value of people and individuals ..;/.against the giants that drag us along paths the majority of us disagree with ...is so sad but is reversable .
the world seems to be fragmenting into various camps set against other camps. we are fragmenting into a myriad of groups opposed to each other ...not good.
if we could only realise that we haqve more in common with each other but no ...thas world is fragmenting into opossing almost tribal factions.
is there any chance of us seeing once again that we all have much more in common in our goals ...than we havedifferences.
