what's the future?

hope some of you can help me; i am doing some research into the future of ict in primary schools, i'd like to know peoples opinions on what technology could be useful to children in, say, 5 years time. how can ict make their learning easier? any ideas would be very welcome!

long time since ive been to primary school, but i imagine these youngsters should be taught how to use a search engine to get information efficiently, something which most adults cant manage to do. like using quotation marks and using the AND and NOT strings in their searches.

I think the major learning with regards to ICT is done using specialised applications that appeal to children, mixed in with games. like typing games which are interactive, and quizzes on various subjects that have more of a fun aspect, this would entice the person to learn to progress through the game.

teach them how to read and speak proper like ...teach them how to use a knife and fork and to potty train them before they get to school!

Schools are still coming to grips with ICT (well, primary ones anyway) and some are struggling. They are trying to get all children using ICT on a regular basis. However, some schools are extremely scared of the new technology as alot of the teachers haven't been trained to use it.

Slowly but surely it is intended tha there will be alot more computers in school and using alot of interactive learning packages. They would like each classroom to have a few computers and slowly everything will be done on them. Some children don't even write anymore. Last year I taught 2 children who were extremely dyslexic and they *never* wrote anything as their writing was unreadable so they used the computers and that way were more proud of their work, they were able to read their work and it made it easier for the teacher to read their work.

ICT is the one of the big keywords in education at the moment and if some people get their way it will end up being abused rather than used and as Morrocan Roll said (in a roundabout way) they will start to forget that the important things are reading, writing and arithmetic.

I read on the BBC that only 1 in 30 people uses quotation marks to force an exact phrase. As an IT support technician, I find the quotes very useful when typing in error messages to resolve customer problems.

Anyway ICT? I see the word "ICT" more than I see "IT" these days. Why the change and when did it emerge? To me though it's always IT.
