I have no interest in gambling myself but this worries me:
    From above source
Las Vegas-style casino towns in deprived areas

    Not a good idea.

    According to Bloomberg:
Slot machines paying prizes more than 2,000 pounds ($3,599) will be allowed for the first time, restricted to the largest casinos because of concerns about their effects on gamblers. The bill will remove the machines from some small businesses, including takeaway food outlets and taxi offices.

``The new regime will result in 6,000 fewer premises than at present having gambling machines,'' Prime Minister Tony Blair's spokesman Tom Kelly said at a press conference. ``Gambling machines will be concentrated in betting shops and casinos, which will be tightly licensed.''

It'd be good to have machines in fewer places - as to whether gambling addiction will increase, I don't think we'll know till its happened.

Personally I think its unwise, but, well the internet is so wide spread I'm not sure it will make a huge impact. The sites of the casinos need to be very carefully placed.

I'd also like to see scratch cards go up to 18 year olds.

I'm not sure why anyone goes into a casino, I've been to a few and they are rubbish, really boring places.

I like gambling (walthamstow dogs is always fun) but I don't think this casino stuff is a good idea...

Large Las Vegas style casinos in big cities – London, Manchester, Birmingham, etc. seems natural and could probably bring tourist and economic benefits.

But, having large casinos in every town seems a bit much and how can anyone think putting a load of casinos in ‘deprived areas’ could be a good idea?

I read Australia did something similar not long back and relaxed theirr gambling laws but there has been a lot of problems.

When you look at how much funding the state of Victoria receives from gambling revenue it makes sense.

Australia has always had the pokies and the keno.

There's a casino in most cities already, there's two in Bradford.

Not everyone has the same morals. But everyone important can agree that money is important.

Money is important but who will these new gambling laws benefit and who will lose out? Well it’s a guarantee that rich, gigantic US casino companies will benefit; why else have they been spending millions lobbying for these laws? And who’s gonna lose out? Vulnerable people in the ‘deprived areas’ they want to build these casinos perhaps…

The gambling laws probably do need to be changed but there’s got to be restrictions. It would be crazy to allow massive casinos in every town where people can just walk in and bet like you can at a bookies. It’s been proven that casino gambling is ‘hardcore’ gambling and a lot more addictive than just betting a few quid on horses.

Gambling laws should be not relaxed but repealed completely. If two may play poker at home without regulations, licences, taxes what the difference if a thousand or a million play? If they play other games? If they use slot machines? If these machines stand in bars, shops, streets, schools, hospitals? Logically this is absolutely the same.

So as me. I never understand the pleasure of gambling from my point of view it’s boring rubbish and stupid waste of time. So what? Others like this so it’s not my business to forbid or permit. There are things that are boring rubbish for others but a real joy for me ( like a kind of music I love) and I wouldn’t be happy if somebody tried to license it.

Sorry, but NO government should tell me HOW I spend my money provided I DON'T commit force or fraud against another!

    ALL gambling should be legal!

Morality is a subjective concept. People in parts of India think some humans have inherent rights to harm others. I do not.

cant believe its being fast track through

only £3million into helping people with addiciton compared to the profits running into the millions

only winners are big conglomerates and government - we all lose in the long run, how the hell will a big casino regenerate an area, look at las vegas, the casinos look well nice, seen the residential areas? complete scumholes all over!

Even though fruit machines can be a thrill to play, they can be addictive too. Fruit machines are more fun because you normally get to play a Monopoly-style board game. Having said that, the money in the long term is better spent on i.e. computer games if you want to have hours of gaming entertainment.

Quiz machines are better though especially with 4 people. But even that is a gamble!
