How much of a performace boost do you recon putting in a new Hard drives gives?
Right now my friend's sony Vaio has 18gb IBM drive with 400kb of cache
We're looking at a samsung 40gb drive with 8mb of cache, also the IBM is noisey the Samsunng had fluid bearings which should be almost silent, also the samsung spins about 1,200 RPM faster then the IBM
His PC is a P3 750 MHz and seem to run mile slower then my P3 HP 500MHz which I replaced the HD on a year ago

Normally better to upgrade RAM if possible.
Of course, you would see more of an improvement initially and then less so as the drive fills up.
