Poo Problems

I'm 22 years old and have only just begun to eat vegetables. I have refused to eat from the age of five and then old habits were simply hard to shake off.

Anyway i'll get to the point. I have now started to eat a large amount of brocoli everyday yet i'm still getting constipated! I thought i might be like that to begin with but's in been nearly three months now.

Does anyone have any ideas about what it might be?

You've gotta get the balance right though. If you have cut everything out except the vegetables then your bowels are going to have to adapt. You should also vary what types of veg you eat.

    What's your diet like?

One word: fibre, and lots of it.

You bowels are not used to vegetables and it could take them a long time to adapt, just like when you were a bay adapting to solid food. Fibre helps pereostalsis (right word <IMG SRC="confused.gif" border="0" ALT="icon"> ), which moves food along your digestive track. It keeps you loose and helps the passing of large volumes.
