I would advise that you read a lot about what you are perscribed so you know what they're giving you and exactly what to expect. I'm not saying they're evil or anything, or trying to put you off, but some of them do have the possibility quite severe side effects. It's always best to know what you're putting into your system so then you can be prepared for the worst....just like the way you think about illigal drugs, I guess.
I speak from experiece. I was perscirbed prozac and it sent me manic and I nearly ended up in hospital. That's because I took it without questioning what it was or what it might do for me.
An informed descision is best, that's what I'm trying to say in my long and rambly fashion.
I hope your appointment goes well, I know how intimidating and (for me at least) embarrasing it can be to admit how you are feeling to a stranger. It will be worth it! <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="smile.gif" border="0">

Let us know how it went, and take care of yourself xxx
She was actually really nice and supportive, and perscribed something called Cypramil straight away. Apparently loads of people are on anti-depressants, and it's not something to be ashamed about.
I've been taking the tablets for a couple of years now, and although I have the odd down patch, most of the time I feel much better
DO IT!
I just wanted to say that thanks to lots of you talking about depression, i finally mustered up the courage to go to the doctors today to talk to them about my depression etc. He was really understanding and supportive and has put me on the well known SSRI fluoxetine. Ive gotta go see him again in a couple of weeks but im feeling more positive now, and that started with every1 on here.
