Cavities

I went to the dentist today for an update on the progress of my retainer.

I've always been told I have impecable teeth. I had fillings in my baby teeth, but my adult teeth have always been great according to my dentists. However today my dentist noticed that I had one cavity in at a relatively early stage and a couple of other spots which showed the sign of decay.

I've not changed my diet or my oral hygiene routine, so I don't know how it's happened.

Anyway, this is what I wanted to ask. The cavity is going to have a filling, but can I get the other spots back to normal by good oral health, or will they continue to develop? Would it take any extra effort to prevent them from developing or would it just be a case of carrying on as normal?
