ashamed of a friend,

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
To cut things short a friend of mine wants to become a dancer/stripper when she turns 18. a glorified one for a website called suicidegirls,

Anyway I think this is totaly unlike her and I'd feel ashamed of her if she went into this, I'm not saying it's a bad profession i am sure some people like doing it but I think higher of her and without sounding bad, I think she deserves better,

She says it's be purely and mainly for money, but do you think it's wrong of me to think this,

    Ah, good old suicidegirls.

There used to be a poster on here called Snow White who's now a model for that website. Dirty tart that she is (though she is quite hot).

I'd be ashamed to know your friend too.

    Sorry, excuse my bitterness there.

Suicidegirls is quite tasteful as porn websites go, really, and it's a safe way of earning some money if you have the breastage for it.

I don't see much wrong with it in all honesty, leaving aside the ability to insult Snow White. It's only a bit of flesh.

What age is your mate? Could possibly be a phase she could grow out of quite quickly. I remember when I was at school; my mate who was 16 at the time had it all worked out about her wanting to be stripper while she is at uni, to help her through financially. She's doing neither now.

If she wants to do it then she wants to do it, you should accept her as she is. Perhaps be ashamed of her inside but maybe the more you discourage her, the more she'll want to do it.

The bottom line is you want whats best for your friend and because you feel she is worth more in your eyes proves what a good mate you are to even be worrying about this. So no its not wrong of you to think this....if the tables were turned, you would prob be a bit miffed if you said you wanted to be a stripper and everyone was like - yeah cool, that really sounds like just your thing!

Maybe you should accept her decision, because if you try to change her mind, you'll just pull yourself deeper into the situation, and it will be harder for you if she really decides to go on with stripping. I have a couple of friends that i'd really wish to change, but i had to accept that i can't. I have a friend i really wish wasn't on pot and stuff, but i can't actually change him. The point is to stay friends with her, but to stay out of stripping, the same way i'm staying out of drugs :)

why are you ashamed of her?

I mean for a start, the suicide girls website is just girls posing right? its not like your friends going to be taking all and sundry in various karma sutra ways now is it....shes just gonna get her kit off and earn a fair chunk of money doin it...its not like its even distasteful or anything, i mean sure you see boobies and bits, but its not like shes using bits of cutlery as sex toys or anything...

personally, i wouldnt have a problem with a friend of mine doing something like suicidegirls....its their body and if they want to use it that way then its fine by me, certainly beats slaving away at macdonalds for a paltry fee....besides, its not like your friend will be any different on the inside, she'll still be the same person, the same friend, what difference to your friendship does a few pictures on a website make?

    Peace

I think if you feel ashamed of a friend, it signifies that maybe you arent destined to be great friends.
It isnt a reason for her not to do it. Real friends should accept each other, even if theyre doing things you would prefer them not to do. You have to let her make her own choices, you dont own her, and im sure her life wont be ruined by doing suicide girls. If it is, then she has to learn her lesson herself.
Tell her that youre concerned, but that youll be there for her - that is, if you will!

Sorry, but are you saying that in order to be a good friend, you must never try to prevent something that you think is bad for your friends? Just sit by and watch?

yes ideally. You can offer your advice, but at the end of the day, its their life, not yours, and within the realms of the law I guess, you cant stop someone. If you dont like how they behave, then dont hang around with them. Its quite a strong thing to say that youre ashamed of someone.

if she wanted to do it for other than money i'd feel diffrently as it's her choice. it's purely for her income though,

I don't see anything wrong with it and I know two porn stars (who appeared on Trisha lol)... I mean it's her decision isn't it? AS long as she realises that she may get shit for her profession... jealous women, some people may look down on her. But hey, I've had that with barwork.

There's no harm in her trying it I guess... But then you can discuss how you feel about it. And at the end of the day, she's still the same person, just in a certain profession.

we all work predominantly for the money though dont we? not because we love it.
In a way, if she enjoys posing, then shes being truer to herself by doing a job where she gets money for something she enjoys.
If she does it and hates it, then hopefully shed give it up.
I hate my job and do it only for the money. My OH hates his job too. If we didnt have to work, we wouldnt.
    We are all prostitutes!!!!

    At least she's honest.

If she's got the arse and tits for it then it's no different to any other line of work.

Being ashamed says a lot more about you then her. It's good to care, but not to be ashamed of a friend. RB explains it well.

Groovaybaby, I only heard the other day, off the good ol' grapevine. She's apparently living in Chicago now.
