Anti-Swearing Campaign.

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Lately (and it is only lately) a lot of people seem to be passing comments about how unnecessary bad language is. Why? It wouldn't be so odd if it wasn't just lately, but in the last week I've heard more moaning than since I joined the boards about it. I've obviously blinked and missed the "Why are you swearing? I'm not swearing" idea, it could be a joke. But I'm not just on about that.

Anyone have an explanation?

(Obviously my most pointless thread ever as all threads created prior to this one were just fucking fucking brilliant.)

I don't see why there is any inherently bad language.

Bad words are only bad because society says so. If s**t had a positive meaning, then why would it be bad? Language in itself is purely an developed and evolved thing by humans.

i tend to swear alot even though i dont know i am, my gf noticed it and informed me off it, if i was asked to describe something that happened to me, i'd say the f word and other curse words just describing a scene even though i wasnt in bad form

As I said, I wasn't really sure about that. I kind of guessed it was a joke. But I've been reading other complaints too. Not to mention any names: Shyboy and 1983 - Are just two people at the top of my head who have complained about swearing lately.

    i like swearing.

nothing relieves anger or emphasised a point like a good 'fuck'.

    as it were.

It gives me stress if I'm in a shop with my mates and one of them will start swearing loud. But on an Internet forum? :/

why do people get offended, like shit and ship are the same word only one letter, and how come words like horrid and viscious described as swear words if the have a negative impact, swear words should be put in the dictionary.

I dont swear much in real life probably because of having kids around all day. Here I may say fook or similar but when people swear here it doesent bother me.
I dont like it if im in public with little un and people are swearing all the time, I have actually asked someone to stop swearing cos little un was there.........thats bad manners to swear in front of young children.

it stems from when there were peasants and upper class people. they each had their own words for things.

over time, the words of the peasants (shit, fuck, cunt) became known as swear words.

Psychological reaction makes a curse word a curse word.
