We don't have diet tips in our articles on TheSite, and many of our users have eating disorders, ranging from mild to very extreme. On the other hand, we do try to encourage healthy eating and a balanced diet, which is not the same as calorie counting. We are very against fad diets and crash dieting, especially in teens and pre-teens.

If you think you are overweight, go and get properly weighed by a nurse or doctor, then seek medical advice about getting your weight down.

There are many other sites if you want to talk about diets and calories. I just don't want to see obsessive calorie-counting being encouraged in this particular health forum.

Hmmm, I'm not sure if I approve of the censorship Karla.

I know there are people here with eating disorders and I accept the need to be cautious when giving out dieting tips.

But for heaven's sake - that girl was asking how many calories were in an alcopop. It's not that bad surely? She wasn't asking the quickest way to lose weight. And I personally think that calorie counting is a valid diet choice when used as part of a balanced diet.

FYI Smirnoff Ice has 228 Calories per bottle

this may sound strange but although calorie counting did contribute to my eating disorder, its also helping me to try to overcome it. because by counting the amount of calories i have in a day i can control the amount i eat and dont feel the need to make myself sick. ok, it might seem stupid, but at least im trying

This may sound bizarre but even I (eat 10 meals a day boy ) count calories occasionaly. When doing heavy training for a while I set myself targets for protein carb and fat consumtion. I then make sure I get atleast these amounts of food into my system each day.

Was going to say just that myself! Look at the fat content if you really want to be healthy!

pah just eat it anyways and worry about it later...worrying actually burns more calories than being calm...so it will balance out eventually

mind you that will prolly lead to an ulcer...but at least it will give you something else to worry about and you will lose weight quicker...possibly
seriously though exercise and less fat intake is the key to losing weight...making yourself sick and having an empty stomach just slows down the metabolism

Dieticians use calorie counting methods. They're the experts. I'll stick with it - calorie counting itself is not bad, but using a counting method irresponsibly is potentially detrimental.

I dont calorie count, as long as I know I've had 3 balanced meals it doesnt matter, and anyway,I burn calories when I'm exercising.I dont think you should worry to much about calories, people burn them at different rates, it depends on your metabolism.
