the definition will different for different people

    eg Tony Blair says
"For too long people with mental health problems have been stigmatised by society - in communities, in the workplace and in the media. They have not always received the support and the services they needed. "

therefor a definition could be people who are stigmatised, people who don't receive support

    try

The term "mental illness" covers so many psychiatric disorders that I wouldn't like to (or be able to) give a clean cut definition.

It is an illness that manifests itself in psychological and emotional ways rather than physical, and that's why there's such a stigma attached I think - because it can't be healed with creams, ointments and bedrest. It can effect the way that a person will think, behave and act towards those around them, rather than the things physical illness effects like mobility etc.

Ah, I dunno, difficult question...my head hurts :( I suggest you do some research if you're genuinely interested, as there has been a huge amount of research and speculation into the causes and definition of mental illness.

Some people would say when you dont liek the right football team but in all serios ness i agree with briggi Mental illness is a very loose term really as it covers a lot of different problems.

Is there a reason you ask? Or just general curiosity?
